Re: Drop the Boat Fenders when anchored?

Really? This is a joke? Who deploys fenders when anchored?

We were forced to once when a sight seeing /beach charter dropped nearly on us to dump his load of tourists. 80 foot scenic wood monster schooner. On several swings he was close enough to exchange beer.

Loads of posters here it seems. So do I if I,m worried another boat will touch

I’ve shared a glass of wine in a French bay when he swung ( gently ) into me. I saw him , he apologises. “ pas de problem “ I say , a few glasses of very palatable wine later he re- anchored.

Re: Drop the Boat Fenders when anchored?

I’ve had a boat run into me, so I don’t go to crowded anchorages at all.

Hi
Yes on crowded anchorage, specially on strong winds or forecasted.

Ring your boat with tire tubes, all around.
You'll be a hit!
One way or the other.
Fenders won't help here.
You can try it though.

Did your deployed fenders help?

Re: Drop the Boat Fenders when anchored?

In any crowed anchorage where there are bareboat charters it sounds like a good idea to me. I can well remember on Norman island in the BVI having to put out fenders to keep a charter yacht bearing down on us after they had dropped their hook and promptly went below.

Was in Spartahori bay in the Ionian , the centre is about 20 m deep. Italian charter comes in drops about 30 metre chain , then all go swimming. Watching them chase the boat was fun !!

What's with the herding instinct anyway?

Where in this case folks go to the same place to anchor together then complain about those that cannot anchor properly?

I leave two fenders on to preclude scrapes from the launch when delivering me from shore.

Ann
certainly doesn't happen around here does it !

(except for the newbies & powerboat types who never take them in after they leave the marina, and thereby provide lots of amusement for the rest of us)

cheers,

Re: Drop the Boat Fenders when anchored?

I've read, in several different blogs, that it is considered impolite and somewhat of an insult/very unsavory to put your fenders out in an anchorage. That being said, we've been rammed a couple of times by boats anchored to dam close. Now, when another boat pulls in and drops the pick, if I think he's to close my fenders are the first thing to go out.
