Yesterday and today were big days for me, well from my point of view. Yesterday I towed the
boat ( I was nervous as heck ) launched it ( without launching my truck) got the
mast and
rigging all set up, at that point it was getting dark, yeah I got a late start. Today, I got the boom up and the lines running right. Then I tried to start the
outboard to
motor out from the
dock, it wouldn't start, so I just pushed off and sailed away, the
wind was at my back easy sailing, so I FINALLY got to SAIL my boat!!! I did a little sail out to the middle of the bay, dropped the
anchor, let a little
scope, then fidgeted with the dang
outboard got it started and it seems to run good, I think the reason it didn't start was I forgot to "choke" it, I am to used to
fuel injected engines, just start and go. So then I hauled up the
anchor and sailed around the Roberts Bay here in Venice. I sailed through a little channel, with the
wind still at my back, but had to
motor back through, too narrow for a
newbie to try to tack through. I need some good open
water practice at that. Then I picked an
anchoring spot, dropped the anchor, in about 6 feet of
water and let out about 50 feet of
scope. probably more than I need, but I am not close to any other boats, so I figured more is better, seeing how my anchor might be considered to be a little on the lite side. Then I made sure all was secure and rowed the
dinghy back to the
dock. And that end my big two days!
