why would you choose to steer from an iPad when you have an actual helm?

Would you steer your car from an iPad?

Just that someone mentioned they can sit under their dodger and steer remotely via wheel on autohelm controls. Might be handy if I have a drink in one hand and feet up on the cockpit table whilst getting a massage from the ships concubine [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

Yes I would steer my car with iPad. Use it for just about everything else.

Re: Chart plotter

This will depend on the functionality delivered by the AP brand.

Start by looking up what AP there is then check if it has wifi built in and then if the company offers an App. Then read into the App manual and see if there is a function that allows for what you want. Your mobile device (say an iThing) would become an AP remote then.

If viable, then it will be a modern AP anyways. Such tricks are not older than 5 years or so.

I prefer physical buttons anyways as these are easier to control with cold wet hands and in the dark too.
