I am probably one of the few people who jump in the
water and examine a boat’s hull/rudder/keel with a mask on BEFORE I even make an offer. Takes 10-15 minutes and has saved me several times from unnecessary surveys as I saw
blisters or other disqualifying issues….
Now I am looking again at
buying an older boat…..looked at one today and the
deck was squishy…thus…...I am considering just
buying a good quality moisture meter on EBay (several hundred bucks), using it when looking at
boats, then just selling it off again on EBay. Same rational as diving….why make an offer and go thru
survey if you can determine yourself if the
boat meets your standards or not?
But I have never used a meter….
Any
advice? Would a meter be usable by a
novice? Would the info be worth the cost?
