Funny I just started watching a few of these...and one of my first thoughts was, people on cruisers forum r gonna hate these two! But hey, they r newbies....we all are at some point.

Re: Best Sailing channels on Youtube

I am surprised there has only been one mention of Sail Life!

I love his channel. I only discovered it about a month ago, but I have binged watched his progress.

Over the past couple of years, he has documented the purchase and refit (rebuild) of a Warrior 38. He shows the actual work he is doing and explains it very well! The man is named Mads, lives in Denmark and his demeanor is polite and pleasant, his videos are skillfully edited, and extremely enjoyable to watch!

His previous project boat, which he lives aboard now is a 30' Albin Ballad. He fixed it up quite nicely, but decided he wanted to go bigger.

He has a great personality and great attitude, even when face with a water-logged core! It is amazing the amount of work he has put into this boat, and he still has another year to go! He loves the project and it shows in his videos.

I also peruse the various S/V this-and-that's. But right now, I am more concerned about the ins and outs of 'project' boats, trying to learn what is involved in major refitting projects.

I also like followtheboat and several others too, but Sail Life is my far and away favorite.

Sail life is EXCELLENT! I've watched them all and loved seeing his progression not only with the work on his boats, but his confidence on camera.

I guess so, but would you buy a used car without checking under the hood and go for a cross country trip? That boat that sank.... I hate to say it, but it almost seemed intentional.

I completely agree. ^^

We've enjoyed Sailing Zatara and will start watching s/v Delos next, but would prefer more family-oriented series, as we will be heading out with two young kiddos when we are done saving.

I have a 9 month old and am pregnant with the 2nd. Older kids will be grown and gone. The younger kids will be 4 & 5ish, if all goes according to plan. I'd like to see how other families make it work.

Re: Best Sailing channels on Youtube

I got to say I enjoyed reading this thread as much as watching some of Delos or Keep turning left and Sail Life. I also like white spot Pirates.

My top is Drake Paragon.

I made a video of my "new" boat, for my wife and my Mother in Law that is in a wheel chair and in Germany. The boat is in the UK. It's kind of a boring video according to my wife. And I do have to agree, I never even considered making videos for YouTube but sending video files over the net is not an easy affair. I left it public without even thinking that Anyone would want to watch a lunatic refit a boat. That was 2 weeks ago. Now my channel already has a few k views and my phone keeps doing pling pling with messages. And I get friend requests on Facebook for the boat from Papua New Guinea. I have a video of pancakes I did for some friends with a few hundred views. All told the channel I made 2 weeks ago for the boat is a public entertainment hub already with a few thousand views that just don’t stop coming and I have people asking me to make more, make more, we like your videos, from Fort Yukon Alaska (Please introduce seriously puzzled face here)
I think I seriously misjudged the situation. I enjoy watching Delos, I also like keep turning left for the funny way he has about him and how professional he sounds. I forget myself watching some other videos as well like Sail life. But that leads me to question. WHY are WE watching them? When did television die? This made me realise I have not turned on my big screen tv to watch anything else then BBC news and Netflix and cannot for the life of me remember the last time I actually watched “television” I cannot stand the breaks and BS and plastic faces and fake smiles. I guess that is my reason to watch Delos and white spot. But... here’s the thing, You guys have boats, why are you watching others sail? Funniest one is the people that work at the Marina and see ME everyday are my most avid watchers. I’m 53 and I thought I had it all partially figured out.. well it seems not.
At the moment I’m writing this there are about 260 people from all over the world watching my 3 vids and the pancakes. From as far as Namibia, Tanzania, Pakistan but that’s not even weird anymore. Weird is the views I have from places like Bahamas… seriously? They never seen a sailboat refit?
I’m a bit stumped to say the least.

I've seen a few, Lone Star is a complicated affair and I got a weird vibe. I thought the husband was dead. Dunno... then they disappeared

The Lazy Gecko. I watched quite a few to see if I could actually understand what it was. It’s mostly about her bikinis and no bikinis.
Don't get me wrong, I'm European and the son of Artists I have no problem with nudity whatsoever, we were all born naked. Having said that as a Man, a Husband and a father to young girls, I felt really awkward watching him " sell " her.
Monday Never was good, then they went back to being land lubbers and I stopped watching.

Despite being a cruising family (our son is four) we watched Delos and SLV before we left. Now it's back to books and looking at the stars! If you are interested in family experiences my wife has a blog with videos etc. She was new to sailing when we left and writes about the good and the bad:

Sorry this is not best ... at all. But just ran into this channel on youtube, and I just put the popcorn in the microwave real fast. A freight train running towards a titanium wall is an understatement.

Young couple of aussies buys a crap ferrocement boat, with a non functioning engine.

Enough said.

Apparently the dad has a bunch of followers on a 4x4 adventure channel he has, and he directed traffic her daughter's way. So most of them are subscribers that are not from the sailing world. That makes it more interesting; you don't get the usual sailing channel negativity (including myself apparently) that you get elsewhere haha. The guy (the husband) is probably going to be the one everyone picks on. He's gonna get youtube bullied, and we know it.

As an interesting sidenote, you have to love that her dad ends up being the "out there guy", with his own channel ... dunno. Just a bit of a different story.

The Train Wreck channel. Can’t look away.

Newbies buy a ferro cement boat. What could possibly go wrong?

Best line of the video...she’s yanking on the cold plate in the fridge and saying “We think this is the fridge...there’s something strange in here and we’re not sure how we’re going to get it out.”

Next best line. He says “The boat has no engine which is why we got it so cheap. Well it has an engine but it’s completely disassembled. We’ll have to get someone in to fix that.”

I’m subscribing. You can’t make this stuff up.

What! Come on Cruisers Forum, were's the love?

I've not read every page, but not one mention of The Daley Adventure? We don't even make the "stopped watching" lists!

Feeling a little bit heart broken...
I'm consoling myself with the fact that we must be 'too normal' and not making enough mistakes to be popular.

I pretty much started making videos for the same reason. Just for me, my family and some friends. I haven't even told many people about it. I really just want a way to track my own progress, and because hey, one day these videos may be all my kids and grandkids have to remember me by !

Mine must truly be boring because I am definitely not getting the hits you are ! LOL. I know my first couple are horrendous. I'm trying to get better. I think I need to go watch yours and maybe I can pick up a few tricks.
