Anyone know what this is?

Anyone know what this is?
I recently bought a Vindo 50 {36’ Sloop} and finally got to go through the cockpit lockers. I came across this and have no idea what it is or what Is used for.
Can anyone help identify it, and what it’s used for?

It’s a boom vang for a roller furling boom. The whole boom and sail wing up inside the C-shape as the sail is wound into the boom. Need to slack off the bang while winding or unwinding.

A house is but a boat so poorly built and so firmly run aground no one would think to try and refloat it.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

As others have said, a boom vang claw for a roller furlling main. Needs to have a line to the rear of the boom to stop it migrating forwards when under load. Popular in the '70's but not since.

Re: Anyone know what this is?

Dingfixer is absolutely correct ! Mine says "Land's End' on it and takes us back to a time when they were making boat parts instead of clothes. I think they are gone now.

But don't throw the thing away. It's extremely useful. Just recently I used mine to attach to the boom, attach a block & tackle, to the base of the device and lift heavy golf cart batteries from the cabin sole to the deck.

Jim

I just hit him over the head with that. To control him I use a rectal re-assignment tool shown below. I use the soft toe ones because I'm not a neanderthal.
