The time has unfortunately come to sell our much loved Tom Colvin designed 42 ft Gazelle GAIA presently lying in Port LaBelle
Florida. As we cannot offer her
for sale in the
USA, she is a Canadian registered yacht, we plan to sail her to the Rio Dulce and offer her
for sale there. (Whether that is smart is debatable but we are looking forward to the
passage 😊
GAIA was professionally lofted, and professionally welded, sand blasted, (she is steel) and painted and we finished her over a period of ten years. As some on this forum might be aware, we then circumnavigated in her which took 23 yrs. Something, if
health and age allowed, we would very much like to do again. But while GAIA is fully capable the same can perhaps not be said of us.
We have of course looked after her well and replaced all her
equipment at one time or another as needed. Some of the more expensive items are quite new. The
engine for example was overhauled over the summer and a new
autopilot was installed only two years ago. The fridge is one year old etc. I believe the only two original pieces of
equipment are a 1500 watt
inverter and the
VHF radio.
I calculated that the equipment on board, all of which works well is worth at today's prices, if bought new, about 84000 dollars. That does not include the
hull, masts or ballast!
As she is of course quite unique, being junk rigged and
steel we will try and sell her privately for best offer and if that does not result in something reasonable will place her with a brokerage.
So the reason for this long post is to ask the community for suggestions where we might make her availability widely known. The more the better! 😊
