That used to be the case but it is much harder now with current gov. If you are here on a work permit then they want the duty. If you are just visiting and not working it might still be possible but I would not count on it. I was told to either pay the full duty or leave so I took the boat back to the states.

Good to know s/v holiday. I left 3 years ago and was not working there however did leave my boat for extended times for the total time I was in Cayman which was just under 2 years. It was interesting that when we went to Cuba on several occasions that "reset the clock" as far as customs were concerned.
