Re: December 2018 BVI Trip Report

I have read about the new BoatyBall, seems to get mixed reviews.
Seems you need to use the app immediately at 7:00am, because they are gone in minutes.

If you used the system; any problems or tips?

Did you have any trouble getting a mooring either through boatyball or on your own if it was late afternoon?

Ultimate goal is Jost.
The channell is deep enough. There are some coral heads if you go south of Little Camanoe and my boat draws over 8.5 feet so I have only done that once, otherwise I go between Little and Great Camanoe - it looks narrow but is deep water the whole way

I'm not sure which of the channels heading to JVD is Guana, but you should not have any problems in any of them. Your chart plotter should show all the depths and IIRC all of them are plenty deep.

It is the channel between Tortola and Guana Island; south of Monkey Point. We appreciate getting personal input from experience sailors

Zanshin, thank you for the suggestion to go between the islands! That information and tip is very helpful. Appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I suspect the charter company will tell you to go through Little and Great and mark off the Guana channel. IIRC both Horizons and DYC marked that as a "no-go zone". As Zanshin said, it between Little and Great looks narrow, but plenty wide enough and deep.
