Destinations in Belize

[U]Good and safe moorings in Belize. [U] We are headed from Key West to Belize. Need to drop off a passenger who will go to airport. What Cat is best and has transport to Belize city. Am thinking Ambergis Caye as we are coming from north. Also wanto avoid dangerous reefs. Recommendations please. No experience with Belize yet just Rio Dulce.

Probably would drop off the passenger in Belize City instead as they will have to go to BC anyway if they are flying back to the States. Easy taxi ride to the airport for your passenger and is an easy entrance through the reef since this is where the cruise ships come/in/out.
Ambergris can be a bit tricky if you've never done it before.

I agree w Bill, you can drop guests at Cucumber Beach Marina, just outside of Belize City. Full service marina where you can rest up, drop off crew, and clear in (officials do charge extra for coming out, but it is convenient).

Eastern Channel is deep, wide, easy, and well marked (one of the few marked channels in Belize).

What kind of boat? Draft?

Thanks. It is 38 foot Kennex Catamarand and has a 65 f mast so bridges are a problem. Do we need to contact the Marina ahead of time? The draw is 4 and one half feet.

No bridges to worry about in Belize...unless you plan to run some rivers. [emoji6]

I asked about draft because the entrance into Cucumber Beach is a max of 6', sometimes less.

The channel into Cucumber between the jetties looks intimidatingly narrow, but it is pasable with your boat's beam. Ive run cats to 50' thru it many times.

I do suggest contacting the marina ahead of time to confirm status of channel and reserve a space.

Thank you. Do you know about the currents and best place to cross the Gulf Stream going west from Key West? Or do you know who might have experience with this?
