More Turkey Problems

I had a chance to hear what coast guard authorities would say on the matter. Contrary to what this gentleman is claiming, they told me that they called the marina management and have been informed that the guy was not hard but on sea whole winter. They have also said that if marina had confirmed that he was on hard stand, the fine would have been avoided.


Jumping on the conclusions w/out hearing the counter part doesn't help..

I'm not sure why? When we're in the marina we use the marina facilities so, in the water or on the hard, we're not filling our holding tanks either way.

I agree. theres a guilty till proven innocent principal here. but I wont make any comments on how that might be wider problem in turkey these days

HI. Obviously you are concerned for your country and the way it is viewed in the sailing community. You should be congratulated for your willingness to get involved and assist with this issue. I also understand from the way you handled this that you are connected.

The sailors should have pumped out before leaving their original port. It's kind of like topping up your fuel tank when at a gas station in your car. Some people don't but rather wait till the fuel is almost empty before filling up.

You have obviously found a problem. Strict enforcement of the laws towards sailboats but non enforcement of the laws requiring Marinas to have operational pump out facilities.

For me this is the crux of the issue. The source of the sense of injustice and unfairness.

One other thing. If the coast guard official bothered to ask if the sailors left their boat without living on it for 7 months then they would have been asking the right question. Not even accepting evidence of this fact is not good or just.

I wish you and your fellow countrymen well. Times of change wether they be for good or bad are always difficult. I wish you and your country peace and tranquility.

Once again, I am for the blue card intiative but not at all the way it's being handled. I agree with most of the legitimate critisisme that forumers have expressed here and all that have been discussed with authorities. Our boating industry and local sailors have addressed their concerns several times. (this regulation is n ot only for visiting boats but for all boats sailing in Turkey)
The new head of coast guard is approaching to this issue more positively and I hope that the things will get better pretty soon.
