Innocent passage in Turkey ?

Hello,

Has anyone encountered using innocent passage while passing through Turkey without checking in?

I'm planning to sail from North Cyprus to Greece but am concerned about potential issues such as engine problems, bad weather, or unforeseen circumstances like illness on the boat. In such cases, we may need to anchor in Turkey for a night or two.

Would we face any issues with the coastguard if they stop us?s
Thanks

I have travelled from Greece to Pendick, Turkey in the Sea of Marmara without clearing in till arrival at Pendick and that included sailing through the Canakkale.

No, you won't have any problem, put on yr turkish courtesy flag. The chances of coast guard to stop you are very slim. Even if they do, they are generally very tolerent particularly if you have a good reason to anchor or moore somewhere to get the repairs you need.

Cheers

You can't arrive in Greece from N. Cyprus. Which is what you'd be doing if you claimed innocent passage. Check in and out of Turkey to avoid dissapointment.

Re: Innocent passage in Turkey ?

As 'goeasy' indicated, I think you may encounter difficulties, entering Greece, from Northern Cyprus.
Since 1974, Cyprus has been divided, into a northern and a southern part.
The Government of the Republic of Cyprus [ROC], the only internationally recognized authority, controls the [Greek Cypriot] southern part of the island.
An autonomous Turkish Cypriot administration controls the northern area. The international community does not recognize the so-called “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” [TRNC], or its administration.
It is illegal to enter the island of Cyprus through the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”.
As far as the EU, and the international community is concerned, the "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" (TRNC) does not exist, and the Republic of Cyprus (ROC) has authority over the whole island.

This is true.. and I missed it. You will have to check in Turkey and check out. Althought since longtime the Greek authorities are not checking anymore the post of origin, you never know, it's not worthed the risk..

Cheers
