Gocek in July - any tranquility or all revelry?

Hi ,

I’m a new member and posted in the family/kids section for advice about a first trip with kids.

Gocek is currently our preference - it sounds too hectic and touristy on the one hand, but with milder winds and myriad coves a short distance from the marina on the other, so we can keep it very simple depending on how the kids take to it.

Any advice from folk who know it well? We would be there first week of July. It sounds like you are not allowed to anchor overnight in many places but that there are buoys in a lot of the coves is that right? I’m not sure I yet understand the local laws and guidance on this. Fethiye is that bit further from the coves so less suited to our beginner needs is that right?

Thanks!

Göçek in July IMHO is not a good idea.. It will be very hot and crowded. Göçek is ideal either in May or October. It's true that there are a lot of anchorage but the best spots will always be booked mostly by motoryachts. There are one or two marinas in Fethiye, three four in Göçek. In almost every bay you will find restaurants jetty with mooring lines. Normally they don't charge anything as long as you eat there and they are not cheap..
Fethiye is 12 nm from Göçek from sea and 30 km by road. İf you start from Fethiye towards one of the bays on Göçek side, it would take couple of hours of sailing. Or, you may turn towards the dead sea where there will be slightly less boat and good anchorages.

For July the west of Marmaris towards Datça is a better option althought you might get a bit lively winds and less people.

Cheers

Re: Gocek in July - any tranquility or all revelry?

Thanks Yeloya-

I fear we will need to go regardless just because of the combination of milder weather and short distances if the kids take time to settle in. Definitely don’t want to expose them to a strong meltemi etc!

Maybe if they settle in well we can end up setting off towards Marmaris for a few days?

I had looked at north west Italy but imagine weather will be less predictable and traffic busier.

Thanks for your advice - any other tips on out of the way /less atrractive spots welcome.
