Having said that, as an US resident-- are the credentialing requirements different than the BVI? We have plenty of experience, but don't know what they may require.
Specifically, which companies would you suggest (and/or avoid)?

We chartered an Elan 45 Impression ("Maui"
https://www.croatiayachtclub.com/elan-45-trogir-3) from Croatia Yacht Club out of Trogir in 2017. Excellent
boat and charter company. We loved the
boat and are now in the market for an Impression of our own, albeit smaller.
You will need an
ICC or IPC or the right
ASA qualifications in Croatia AND a
radio licence. The charter company will be able to advise or check

We have also had good experiences with Ultra and Dream Yacht in Croatia, but not sure they have any Elans. We are chartering an Elan 384 with Master Yachting later this year (from Sukosan) and although we haven't chartered with them before they come highly recommended and have a number of Elan's in their fleet.
Good luck! We know Croatia extensively and have also done a lot of
research into Elans if we can be of any help!
