Egypt - Port Suez

Leaving Israel soon for Port Suez - will probably not transit the canal.

Has anyone recently used an agent there or can recommend one?

Re: Egypt - Port Suez

you could use felix yacht agent who seems to be the most reasonable, but if you just want to visit egypt you might be better going to alexandria, where you can anchor near the yacht club.

contacts:
Abdo from Felix Maritime promises me that they will provide an excellent service which will be equal or better than the other agents. So based on that I have obtained and posted onto Noonsite a update of fees from the agents.
For Prince of the Red Sea contact princeoftheredsea@gmail.com
For Felix contact abdo_felix@hotmail.com
For Nasco contact yachting@nascotours.com

Re: Egypt - Port Suez

I believe you mean Port Said (not Port Suez).
If you do want to sail the canal to Suez, then Felix is a good agent. You must have an agent to arrange the formalities of the canal.

Suez is on the Red Sea side of the canal. Port Said is on the Med side.
Agent Prince of the Red Sea operates in Port Suez. If you are not intending to do the canal I would definitely agree with Atoll to go to Alexandria. There is likely no worse place on earth for yachts than Port Said. Marine Traffic is horrendous and baksheesh a language unto itself. Also its not a safe place to leave a yacht. There is no anchorage.
Also - don't eat the watermellon no matter how delicious it looks.

My experience , (2) visits to Egypt- accept baksheesh as a way of ' easing problems '. Do not refer to Israel by word or by print.. Marlboro' is currency. Don't declare firearms. I enjoyed the Israeli radio slogan " No more war , no more baksheesh ", Of course , after leaving Said !!

Re: Egypt - Port Suez

As you are not transmitting the Canal I guess you mean Port Said at the Mediterranean end. The facilities are grim; why would you want to go there?
Also, altho' not essential, it might be useful to go via Cyprus so you are effectively coming to Egypt from a Cypriot last port of call. While Egypt and Israel are not at each others throats and an uneasy relationship exists between the two countries I would, as Bob advises, avoid all mention of or reference to Israel. And yes, Alexandria if you must, but not Port Said.

Check on the costs before you get there, I'm sure that I recall - within the last six months or so - someone telling us that the Harbour Dues in Port Said had 'gone through the roof' the price jumping to from something like $100 to $700?
I can't offer anything definitive, but do check.

Re: Egypt - Port Suez

I forgot to mention that you will have to call for a pilot - yes - before you are allowed to enter Port Said. So unless you are going to transit the Canal - again with a pilot who will expect his 'presents' from you... I suggest you go to Alexandria unless you want to go to Hurghada, Abu Tig or Port Ghalib where I cleared in really efficiently and without problem on my way northwards,

Re: Egypt - Port Suez

YEA my boo boob - Port Said -- just got the cost for just entering the port is 675USD - WOW - that does not include 21USD per day for dockage.
Unless we were certain we were going to transit the canal which is very open now we will skip it and go to Alexandria

Does anyone have an email for Alexandria? Thanks to all for their help This forum is great .
