Cyprus Volvo - why do I feel I am being ripped off ?

Overall, because its a boat I am talking about - I suppose I shouldn't comment , but the local Volvo agents (Limassol) are not being communicative , and are ignoring the time slipping by...
I have never come across a Volvo agent who only sells spares , and who then recommends an accredited mechanic , who just makes me So Angry.
Of course I am all diplomatic when dealing with them - so excuse my vitriol here ???
I now have my transmission 2 hours away in pieces - and have just paid for everything new - much more than quoted... But that would not be a problem - except I am stuck on the hard with no power or water close by ???

I am told this is normal - but i dont believe it should be - and Volvo 's website does not allow direct confrontation either...

I suppose I must just grin and bear it

This is without a doubt THE most stressful haulout I have ever done...

From having to build my own trailer to haulout (they were refused permission to use the existing one cause the broke it) to now dealing with this nonsense...

I need to go on a long sea cruise

Kris

Learn to relax, cruising is supposed to be fun and boat maintenance is part of cruising.

Volvo may be the most difficult of outfits to deal with, next to Raymarine. With Volvo, expect over priced parts and labor, even where the parts can be sourced locally from bearing shops and the ilk. Expect obfuscation, not being called back when you phone. In your shoes, I think i'd offer the mechanic a bonus for finishing early. Enough of a bonus to provide some motivation. [The above opinion is based on personal observations of over 25 yrs., but is just an opinion.]

But the guy from Melbourne's right, expect haulouts to have surprises. They often do.

Good luck with it all. Your choice is to learn to do the work yourself, which would serve you well, and you could pay the mechanic to vet your work.

Re: Cyprus Volvo - why do I feel I am being ripped off ?

Perhaps I should never haulout - EVER ! I definitely get landsick.

the only part of my boat with Volvo heritage is the leg/transmission.

all of the above true - and yes I expected to be overcharged.

What I did not expect is the downright rudeness and attitude of "you are just an irritation - I am better than you - I dont have to return any of your calls ! "

However - the admiral has been appraised of the problem and has advised me she will pay

and how she will pay

Of course its now been 3 1/2 weeks on the hard with no close by water or electricity and a loooong walk to the loo's

I am still waiting....

Kris - landsick !

Yep still in Latchi - at least the moorings are cheap(er) and the liveaboard community fun. Did you see I had to build my own trailer to get FP out - its a knock-down , am taking it with me
