Med to the US this Summer

Our boat is built and sitting in S. France. By supreme fortune we had a wonderful couple who were previous owners/circumnavigators on a earlier Hull# use the boat for 2 weeks and shake it down - as an owner would!

Now repairs are made and from what we see it is unlikely to get to the boat and be able to sail the Med for this season for sure. (We had hoped to do 2 seasons in the Med then the ARC to Carib).

We are now contemplating attempting to get in with a 'Delivery' / 'Financial Burden' i.e. a 20% VAT Tax as our reason and leave asap and sail for the East Coast of the UW So, assuming we can get to the boat sometime in late April to mid May, and leave within a week or two, we would have some questions:

1. What is the earliest that it would be reasonably safe to cross the Atlantic?
2. We really don't want to pay Florida's 2% 'import' tax the boat has USCG Documentation and is owned by a Delaware LLC - should that be our first port of entry?

What other concerns should we have or may be missing?

I would suggest you stock up your larder for the trip as soon as you arrive then head out through Gib and bypass the Canaries and then carry on till W of Capes Verdes and hang a right for Trinidad and if possible carry on to the Abacos to wait out the hurricane season if possible... from there you can beam reach up to the USVI's end of November..
Or just keep going till you get where you want to..
You'll be fine for the crossing as the SHTF usually from late July onwards.

Re: Med to the US this Summer

Boatman, thanks for the advice. We are trying to stay North of the Hurricane line on the crossing and want to cruise the E Coast for the Summer then do the Dawg Rally down to the Carib. If the EU opens and we feel up to it we may just cross back to the Med and get our couple of seasons cruising in then.
Thanks
