Re: What if This Happened On Your Boat?

We anchored the dinghy in knee deep water in the Exumas Pipe Creek area near an iron shore rocky area and went conch hunting. Returned to the dinghy to find a Brown Racer sunning itself on the seat. I coaxed it into the water with an oar and off it went to the rocky area where there was a hawk or Osprey perched on the highest rock. The snake probably became lunch.

There are small Timber Rattlers on Andros and probably other kinds of snakes too.

Re: What if This Happened On Your Boat?

My friend spent all last year cruising Indonesia with his family on their Catana 47. They found sea snakes onboard several times. They are very venemous but not aggressive. I wish I could have found the picture of his 17 year old daughter holding one this size before she released it overboard.

Re: What if This Happened On Your Boat?

I woke at 04:00 to use the head while moored at the dock in Paradise Village, Puerto Vallarta. When I turned to wash my hands I was confronted by a 5ft iguana with 4" claws perched on the sink. It had crawled in the port light. I screamed like a little girl. I closed the door and decided I could deal with it in the morning.

Re: What if This Happened On Your Boat?

I am a reluctant sea swimmer. After a quick dip from the bathing platform, I was drying off when this chap appeared very interested in climbing aboard. We discouraged him. He circled the boat with his head just above the water level and then swam off to Tomahawk Island in the Bass Strait. A friend later told me it was a tiger snake, and highly poisonous. I am an even more reluctant sea swimmer now.
