IRMA FEMA Relief For Non Resident Cruisers?

Tried to contact FEMA got cut off after 20 min. on hold. Hoping someone has some insight on a non resident full time cruiser assistance. Has anyone done this yet? Boat is fine, but since no power was wondering if accommodation help is possible. Thanks.

all you can do is ask and submit a request for aid. fema wont even know until you are accepted or rejected so go for it. your home was lost?? was a boat?? is still a home. this should be your first step. submit request to fema.

To the OP:

Did you mean you wanted to offer your boat as temporary habitation for someone without a home?

No, we are on our boat. My question is sre there non Florida resident cruisers that were here during Irma that need assistance that have applied or been told by FEMA they qualify.

Not to sound harsh....but why not just go anchor somewhere with a breeze? What else do you need power for?

Where is your boat registered? How long have you been in Florida? Saying you live on your boat and applying for FEMA may raise red flags with Florida boater registration if you are not already properly registered there.

From what I've been reading lately, for alternate housing assistance, I'm pretty sure you need to fill out a paper or online application which requires s a US Social Security Number.

FEMA housing is for people whose home has been damaged to the point that it is not habitable. Just being without air conditioning does not qualify you, unless you have some medical condition that would make A/C a requirement.

In what way is your boat not habitable? If you can't clearly articulate that, you aren't going to qualify for any sort of assistance. Moreover, if you have another home somewhere else, they are going to tell you to go there. I wish you the best of luck in dealing with the aftermath of Irma, but I'm going to guess that you will have a hard time getting any sort of housing assistance.

And this is as it should be......In my book, being without power but able to habitate the boat does not even make a leaky argument for assistance, it does however make the OP seem like someone who has lost noting but still feels entitled to a handout.
If there is a medical condition that requires A/C.....then why a boat in Florida in the summer?!

Compassion?! For what?! I have to have missed something here. If I have this right...you are asking for public assistance because your life turned into other peoples's vacation. You surely must have framed this wrong or are just entertaining yourself by firing people up. I used to charge $1800 a week for the life the storm has stuck you with.

Yup...

You need to keep in mind that there are people out there with serious problems. FEMA is not here to hand out "free stuff" to entitled people.

No. I have NO COMPASSION for you what so ever.
