Re: Mid-40's family cruiser- Finally time to shop!

There is a Kelly/Peterson 44 listed on the San Diego Craigs List for $74,900. Looks to be in sailaway condition but pictures don't always tell the whole story. Boat is in Ensenada which isn't a bad place to start a cruise.

That probably would qualify for "offshore delivery" for tax purposes. Not all that far from Downwind Marine by bus, either.

Re: Mid-40's family cruiser- Finally time to shop!

Please take a look at myMercer 44 at www. Mercer44.net. Price is $50K firm. The Mercer 44 has lots of interior room, an enclosed head with wrap-around shower curtain. Also has a full size double bed that you can't fall out of and that will support one person very tall and the other up to 6' tall (berths are 74" long). The fold-out double is shown on the website. the boat is presently on the hard in Irvington, VA accessible from the Chesapeake Bay via the Rappahannock River. I frankly doubt that a refit to suit you would cost over 10K, mostly to repaint the deck and bottom. Perhaps some new lines. Boat was literally rebuilt in 1999 as shown on the website. The Mercer44's are great family cruisers. My wife and I took her to the Bahamas (twice) and Main (once).
Mercer 44's have gone all all over the Pacific and Atlantic. Of the approximately 16 Mercer 44's built by Mercer Reinforced Plastics in 1960-1070, all but one have survived and that was hit in on the hard by a truck!
