Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

Terra Nova is now for sale.

Over the past ~10 years I have been refitting my Freya 39. Due to medical issues and serious injuries, which have left me somewhat handicapped, I have decided to sell her even though the refit is still incomplete.

Power is Yanmar 3QM30. Also have a complete spare 3QM30.

During the refit I have purchased NEW:

(deck)
Sails (Genoa, staysail and cruising spinnaker)
Roller furler and all 316 ss standing rigging
Liferaft
Dodger
Solar panels (2) and mounting frame
Rope clutches and turning blocks, staysail and running backs with turning
blocks
All opening ports with screens
Gas BBQ, propane tank and propane tank locker hatch
Cockpit instrument panel
Whisker pole
All chain plates
Dorades, cowl and mushroom vents
Mast steps and wiring
Radar and mount
LED masthead light, masthead wind sensor and Windex
Virtually all deck and track mounted blocks and cleats
Boom vang
270' 3/8 high test anchor chain

(equipment)
Refrigeration
Water maker
Water tanks (2)
Faucet fixtures (2)
3-burner stove with oven, hoses and electronic fume detector with remote
propane shutoff
Microwave oven
Head, pump and sink
Waste tank and valves
SSB radio with tuner and insulated backstay
Bilge pumps (3)

(interior)
All new cushions and upholstery with custom fitted sheets

Above is a partial list which I feel hits the high spots. Additionally I have virtually all the other equipment, electronics and cruising gear in new or excellent used condition. This includes items such as: anchors, GPS/plotter, sextant, etc.

There is still some interior work to complete (though I have virtually all the materials). Additionally most of the plumbing and wiring is yet to be installed (though I have virtually all the materials.

My avatar shows Terra Nova sailing on San Francisco Bay. I'll attach a few photos here and can provide more.

Sell $40,000.

Where in the world is it moored? On the hard or in the water?

Re: Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

That serene Marina del Rey water reminded me of a time I met my cousin Mike at Tommy Lasorda's Pasta House before sun up one weekend in 1992 so he could bid the drywall work on the remodel I was doing. As the sun lightened the eastern sky we stood in the big picture windows to watch the sunrise. All of a sudden a tiny wavelet formed stretching north to south across the water at the far side of the marina from us and came right at us at, I suppose, 600 miles an hour. It was an earthquake shockwave. Immediately after the tiny, speedy line of water rebounded off the seawall in front of restaurant evey boat, starting at the far side and moving towards us, began rocking uncontrollably, and the sailboat masts began crashing into each other. Right place at the right time.

Re: Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

Thank you all for your comments.

Terra Nova was built in 1983. She is hull #40. Wet stored in a slip in Marina del Rey.

Some custom features that go beyond the term "refit" might be worth mentioning:
Aft of the cockpit I have installed a heavy duty, aluminum deck hatch which accesses a glassed-in locker that can hold 3 large propane tanks.
On the cabin top have been installed 2 Barient self-tailing winches plus a gang of rope clutches and turning blocks so that most sailing controls can be led back to the cockpit.
A heavy duty aluminum frame has been installed, forward of the dodger, to mount 2 solar panels; this frame also incorporates grab rails for added safety.
A tall, slender chain bin has been glassed into the aft, inboard corner of the head. This places the weight of 270' of high-test chain over the keel, next to the mast. A super-sized Nielsen vertical capstan windlass is mounted on deck, near the mast, to feed the chain through a stainless pipe.
Under the companionway ladder is the glassed-in battery box which holds (4) L16 batteries to provide a 750 amp-hour house bank.

Here is a photo of the custom chart table which will handle charts without folding. On the chart table can be seen the instrument pod which mounts over the companionway hatch. Also in the photo can be seen 2 of the new Newfound Metals stainless opening ports, of which there are 6. The inner cabin liner was removed and replaced in order to install new window spacers between the liner and cabin top. That space was also insulated in the process.

I'm not in the market -- but that is a great looking boat. It's easy to see the boat has been well cared for, and well thought out.

Re: Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

One of those great books on which boats to buy for serious offshore (Kerchner's book I think) rates the Freya 39 highly. Sorry to hear you have to sell such a beauty.

Re: Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

I too am sorry to hear you have to let her go. I have a good old friend up in the bay with one so I know what great boats they are. (perhaps you met him up there? He has the Freya 39 named "Solstice.") I wish you well and improved health.

Re: Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

Thank you all for your comments.

Between the chart table and large"quarter-berth" is a seat with storage beneath, a place to sit when you come in for a break from a night watch, where you won't bother sleeping crew members or track wet oilskins through the boat unnecessarily, and where you can easily reach the radios and keep an eye on the radar.

Right in front of you, when seated there, is the view depicted in a photo. In the upper left corner you see the electrical distribution panel, which hinges at the bottom for convenient access to the wiring.

To the right of that is a cabinet for VHF, loud hailer, stereo, SSB, etc. Below that is the battery switch panel and, immediately below all that is the battery box housing (4) L16 batteries which create a 750-a/h house bank with a separate start battery adjacent to that.

Just to port of all that is an equipment space which contains the inverter, water maker, refrigeration and separate battery charger. So much of the power consuming equipment is installed very close to the source of power and distribution.

Re: Freya 39 fiberglass cutter

Under both 7' settee berths are brand new Ronco Plastics water tanks of 44-gallon (IIRC) capacity each, with cleanouts, plus additional storage. Additionally there is a ~5-gallon stainless water heater.

With the settee back cushions out of the way there is full shoulder width room for sleeping on new cushions and upholstery with custom fitted sheets.

Okay now you're making me drool for I know how long it takes to complete even the simplest alterations (think of a number, then multiply by 10).
