Cavalier 32 in New Zealand

For Sale:
"Betelgeuse 2", Cavalier 32 -10m sloop.

Located at Nelson Marina, Nelson NZ.
Price NZ$38,000.

This yacht is fully equipped and will look after you. Cav 32's are renowned for their speed and sailing ability. They have circumnavigated. Unlike many "condo" yachts, Cav 32's are great fun to sail, do not pound when hard on the wind and are well mannered off the wind.

Betelgeuse 2 has a one-off modified interior which includes a good sized V berth forward and a fully enclosed head with hanging locker to port. This was accomplished by shortening the port salon berth (great place to sit next to the Dickenson diesel heater in the winter). The starboard berth is full length.
If you would rather actually go cruising right NOW, instead of buying a "cheap deal" tired out yacht and spending lots of $ and time getting it ready, Betelgeuse 2 is your yacht. Nothing left to do. ALL systems are in excellent condition. All 4 owners have upgraded and maintained this yacht to highest standards.
The rental contract of 10m berth at Nelson Marina can be transferred to the new owner at no extra charge. Berth rental is NZ$244/month. Living aboard is not permitted, but an owner can stay overnight 5 nights/month.

Here are the details:

Hull: Balsa core GRP, Decks: Balsa core GRP
Construction: The Cavalier 32 was one of the early pioneers of cored fiberglass construction. The hull is built incredibly strong with hand-laid GRP and end-grain balsa coring. The layup from the exterior moving inwards starts with the gel coat which is reinforced by 1oz mat, then followed by 10oz cloth and two layers of 2oz mat. The balsa coring is 19mm thick in the bilge and 13mm thick above the waterline. Then comes 2oz mat and 24oz woven roving which forms a strong impact resistant layer. The deck/cabin has the same layup as the topsides. All through-deck fittings are backed by glassed-over wood. The hull-deck join is epoxy glued, then pop riveted with monel rivets every 6 inches and stainless steel bolts every 12 inches. The join is glassed over forming an interior gusset equal to the hull thickness. The original teak toe rails on hull/deck join were replaced with powder-coated alloy extrusions in 2022. Solid lead keel with five 1” S.S.. bolts. Although there was no osmosis, the 2nd owner (very fastidious) had a full "peel"osmosis treatment in 2010 by Fibreglass Solutions before he took her to to the S. Pacific o a 2 year cruise, major internal refit 2008, topsides and decks repainted 2008 with 2-part polyurathane.
