2001 Island Packet 420 (recent major refit)

We are unexpectedly looking to sell our 2001 Island Packet 420 that we just completed a major refit on in 2020. We had no intention of selling our boat, so we installed the best possible equipment (our opinion, of course) during the refit.

Boat is currently on the hard in Cape Canaveral FL, and we're asking $225k.

Highlights for the refit include: New B&G Electronics, New Victron Lithium system, new holding tank/hoses/toilets, new refrigeration, new North 3Di sails, new standing rigging, new arch/swim platform, and new prop shaft/seal/feathering prop. More details and additional items below.

TLDR: Solid world cruiser with all new systems ready to go; not a pristine show boat to impress your friends with at the local yacht club.

Here is a (mostly) complete list of work done during the refit. All items listed below were installed new between 3/2020 and 11/2020 (unless otherwise noted):

Complete B&G electronics package including the following:
12" Zeus 3 Chart plotter, 3x Triton 2 displays, Simrad RS40-b Vhf radio with AIS transceiver, Simrad HS40 Wireless VHF handset, SI-TEX Metadata VHF/AIS splitter, B&G NAC-3 Autopilot with new Type II hydraulic ram, DST-800 Transducer with upgraded bronze thru-hull, WS310 wired wind transducer, B&G 4G radar, and all new NMEA 2000 network.

Complete Victron Lithium battery system including the following:
3x Victron 200Ah Smart Lithium batteries
Victron VE.Bus BMS
2x 100 amp smart battery protects (one for solar input, one for output to DC panel)
1x Victron Cyrix Li-CT 230
3x Victron 100/30 Smart Solar controllers
Victron 3000 Multiplus inverter/charger w/ Digital Multi Control 200 GX
Victron BMV-712 battery monitor

Other electrical upgrades include:
Balmar XT-170 alternator w/ MC-614 external regulator and Serpentine belt upgrade
3x LG-375 solar panels
New ELCI Breaker installed in main AC Panel
Underwater LED light

Engine maintenance/updates:
Removed/refurbished heat exchanger
removed cleaned and inspected turbo
removed and Inspected existing fabricated Stainless Steel exhaust elbow; found to be in good condition and reinstalled.
New Exhaust hose
New prop shaft, cutlass bearing and PSS Dripless shaftseal
New Featherstream prop

Rigging Upgrades:
New standing rigging
New mainsheet pulleys
New England Ropes Viper Halyards
New Genoa and Staysail Furling lines
New Dyneema lifelines

Sails:
Genoa - 130% North 3Di Ocean 330
Staysail - North 3Di Ocean 330
Main - North 3Di Ocean 370

Interior Upgrades:
New LED light fixtures throughout
6x new Caframo Ultimate 757 fans
New Latex mattresses in both cabins; Froli sleep system in master, Hypervent in aft cabin

Galley Upgrades:
Acuva UV water purifier
Kenyon Silken 2 Induction cooktop gimballed with Microwave/convection oven combo
2x Isotherm 2013sx systems (1 fridge, 1 freezer)

Anchoring:
Mantus 65lbs Anchor
Mantus Swivel
Mantus anchor bridle

Custom Arch and swim platform built by Morgan Metals. Arch supports solar panels and custom dinghy lift (operated using power winch on cabintop).

Custom hardtop for dodger, fabricated out of fiberglass over divinycell foam.

Replaced aluminum holding tank with new fabricated plastic tank built to the factory specs for the original tank.
All new waste system hoses using Saniflex hoses.
New Raritan 53101 macerator pump
New Dometic Masterflush 8100 toilets in both heads
Brondell Bidet Seats for both heads

The boat is plumbed for a Spectra Cape Horn extreme watermaker, but not included in the sale. We also added a slide for an electric cooler under the chart table (cooler not included). There is also a box with about $2000 work of new parts we bought before we realized we needed to sell her (mostly equipment to install a whisker pole, but also some odds and ends like new mast exit plates).

As you can see, this boat is our baby and we've put a ton of work into her (estimated about 1600 hours of labor for the refit).

Now for the less than good stuff. The boat does have some damage history. She was damaged in a hurricane in 2003 and had water inside up to the floorboards. The owners we bought the boat from bought her in 2004 and rebuilt the boat in Canada before launching her in 2010. At the time of the hurricane, she only had about 200 hours on the engine; right now she has just over 1600 hours. So you can see, she's had plenty of cruising since the incident.

Other, less than ideal things: As I mentioned above, we had every intention of keeping this boat, so we've put a ton of work into the boat systems; but we haven't put so much work into polishing the boat yet. That means some of the teak needs to be refinished on the outside, and the cabin sole could also use a refinish (if you want it to look pristine anyway, completely functional as is).

Bottom line: She's a solid boat with tons of new systems and is as ready to go cruising as any boat you'll likely find. She's not the boat for you if you just want to sit at the yacht club and impress your friends with all the shiny interior wood work (at least, not without some elbow grease first).

We do have a survey from 12/2020 that values her at $245k.

Here are some additional interior photos.

Please note, the paint in the galley isn't hiding anything. This was going to be THE boat for us and we wanted to make her ours. There was going to be a lot more paint in the interior but we hadn't gotten to it.

It's looks great. Did you do all this work yourself? Again looks great.

Re: 2001 Island Packet 420 (recent major refit)

We did do most of the work ourselves. We didn't do the standing rigging or the cutlass bearing/shaft/seal; but pretty much did everything else ourselves.

The boat is tentatively sold now.

May I ask, is this IP 420 still for sale?
