St Lucie Canal

We have a 46' sloop with 60' mast that draws 6' that we need to move from west side of FL to Maryland. Is the St Lucy Canal...cutting through Lake Okachobee out of the question?

Yep, it is too shallow.

Re: St Lucie Canal

Not to mention 49' bridge clearance.

Re: St Lucie Canal

Agree with all responses - Marathon Cut was our next best option in our Gulfstar M53 (5ft draft)/61 ft mast. Saved us 2-days around the Keys.

Re: St Lucie Canal

Dreamcat, your draft is not a problem. The bridge at Port Mayaca is only 49 feet in the up position. There is a service that will "lean" the boat to get under the bridge, but 60 feet might be more than they can do. The fixed bridges on the Calloosahatchee are only 55 feet, so they will be your limiting factor. The Lake routes are not as shallow as rumors would have you believe. We've done the crossing several times, both cross the lake and the rim route. Chuck
