Help me find my magical place in the world please

Hi to all of those well traveled cruisers.

Please help with suggestions.
I am looking for my perfect place in the world to spend 6 months of the year when not working.
I seek somewhere with;

an affordable marina I can leave my small yacht and stay aboard

a great left hand long board surf break close by the marina - doesn't have to be gnarly I am no pro shredder just love to catch a wave

mountain bike paths close by would be perfect

easily assessable from an airport

Weather can be variable will be visiting for three months at a time both in southern hemisphere summer, spring and winter months - mild weather is best. Somewhere with visa allowances for this ex Australia

I am not keen on south eastern Asia or Asian continents - no offence but I deal with these cultures constantly in tourism when I work and would prefer a break from this.
Any suggestions to help me with my search and experiences first hand - I have been ploughing the net.....

Plan to buy boat locally or take my small cruiser to location. Could be anywhere in the world.

Thanks fellow travelers and explorers!

....I'm imagining you arriving to all of the destination suggestions you're about to receive, looking around, saying "nope!" then sailing on to the next spot. [emoji1]

Sorry I can't be more constructive because I wouldn't know what to look for surfing-wise. Actually there was a nice beach on the Pacific side of Panama called Playa de Banao? I will look up the spelling. It's been many years. My mom got her catamaran beached and holed on the surf, something about local fishermen cutting anchor lines and stealing stuff off wrecked boats being a thing.. I realize I'm not really selling it and I'm not convinced a surfing destination is also the best anchorage, but all horror aside it WAS really pleasant.

PS: recommend all-chain rode.

If it has everything you want it sure as hell wont have an "affordable" marina.

Don't know if it's a left hand break but.. Nazare has the biggest surf in the world close to the marina, an airport an hour away and mountain bike paths to boot..
Pretty reasonable prices as well..

The only paradise you’ll ever find is one you find on your own, the beauty of it being that you found it.
When you do, you’d best keep quiet about it, or it will quickly become a scene.
Good luck!

Port Stephens, Forster, Yamba, Brunswick Heads, Mooloolaba, Agnes Waters, Tutukaka
Regional airports, left hand breaks, mountain bike tracks $20-25AUD /day long term berth, good road connections, great weather no visa required.

Nah. Not much of that sort of stuff here at all.

And far too much overcrowding.

Try around Adelaide, South Australia, which should provide pretty much what you want.

Re: Help me find my magical place in the world please

Just wondering why you asked for a marina..... You are in Oz, have a small sailing boat, or maybe even two? The Roberts 25 is not really suitable to sail overseas..... Not sure what you are thinking. About a bigger boat going overseas? Or to stay in Oz with the Duncanson?

Plenty of good places to stay in Oz, but... no cheap marinas.

Overseas, west coast of Sumatra.... but not too many marinas there, but good for surf.
Dare I say Bali or Lombok?
Vanuatu? no real marina, good surfing at places.

As others have said, secret paradise spots are not easily shared, and paradise depends more on attitude to life than on location.

Re: Help me find my magical place in the world please

I am told that there is superb surfing on the west coast of Vancouver Island. I'm not a surfer so have no personal knowledge of it. Moorage is available in Bamfield Inlet. Short drive to Nanaimo airport from there, and a short hop by local scareline to Vancouver International. Alternatively, by float equipped DeHavilland Beaver direct from Bamfield to YVR. It's VFR, of course, so when the ceiling is low, Beavering from Bamfield to YVR is a fantastic experience!

Water is cold, but the climate in wonderful. The gunkholing is superb, while at the same time you can have all the blue-water thrills you want.

Mountain biking is terrific and The West Coast Trail will blow your mind!

You might like life in "the OTHER colony" :-)!

Re: Help me find my magical place in the world please

A few moons ago when I was last in Barbados, they had a world championship surfing round there and I know that some went bike riding as well. Personally I love the place, although I've yet to get to the horse races or to time my visits with an international test match (sigh)

The Keppel Island group in tropical Queensland. There is a nice marina at Rosslyn Bay and the town of Yeppoon nearby. Just spent three weeks cruising round the area and now wish I had never left. Don’t know about the surf but there are lots of interesting walking tracks and the many beaches are superb. Plus there are some coral reefs for snorkeling. Most cruisers sail past on their way to the Whitsundays, this time I stopped!
