It involves a secret handshake, winks and nods, and a password, of course!

Nah - I just saw your other thread under "New Posts" this morning.

But you can also search a Member's name once it comes up (in the Mobile view, at least) you can:
"Find all posts by this Member", or
"Find all threads started by this Member"

Now this one, you gotta explain, Kalle!
I may be some dumb Canuck, but is this some West Coast lingo or perhaps some US jargon that we don't have North of the border...?

Re: Boat emergency kit

I sleep with a firefly strobe attached to my ankle. First thing I look at is how to get back on the boat by myself one handed. Remember Natalie Wood ?
Storm or brass cop whistle, knife and light on you all the time. Practice getting in your Gumby and getting someone else hurt or unconscious into their Gumby.
I’m not big on life rafts. Hard dinghy on deck. Let people know when there is any thing wrong right away. Separate battery for radio and AIS. Lightning, fire...you need communications when the regular stuff is toast.
Training not equipment. Sailing isn’t a sport, it’s just survival of the most prepared. We are not marine mammals, just mammals.
Happy trails to you.

Re: Boat emergency kit

mocking myself btw!!

And lol - little wing, no, I’m honestly just a really good tango dancer trying to make sense of this relatively new sailing world! I can tell you the advantages of a Cuban heel, but have to look up every single acronym you’re using

Re: Boat emergency kit

If I lived up there I'd trade you sailing tips for a couple lessons!
My wife would probably fly me up there for them.

Yeah you better put it in the classifieds, I bet you'll get some takers!

BTW, being up there in the Bay, you are familiar with the magazine Latitude 38, right? If not stop by a chandlery and pick one up to just help you get more acquainted with the sailing world.

Re: Boat emergency kit

Here is a good link with a list of emergency items for a ditch bag: https://danboater.org/travel-health-...ditch-bag.html https://danboater.org/travel-health-...ditch-bag.html

In addition, you might want to add a desalinating water maker.

The ditch bag should not be so heavy you have trouble lifting it. If so, put items into two bags.

Re: Boat emergency kit

I'm not an expert here, but I would still recommend you have a medical kit there.

Anyways, a non-medical kit like the one from https://72hours.ca/collections/emergency-kit includes at least: a folding knife, a multifunction pen, a survival bracelet with compass, whistle, flint, paracord, and scraper. The kit also includes: A screwdriver. A hexagon wrench. A small saw. A flashlight. A thermal blanket. A carabiner. A water-resistant plastic case. You can add anything you want and need to this kit and make it fit for you. Everyone should have such a kit on the boat, and, sadly, some people neglect that.

Re: Boat emergency kit

Good plan but a charter boat has to gear their boats Re liability. A 40’ has a spot for a 4-6 man life raft in a case
