re: TALOS Giveaway - EXTENDED TO SEPT. 7, 2020!

Am I missing the point somehow? How is knowing lightning is close going to help prevent a strike? And apart from increasing the earth passage to the seawater, what preparations make any difference? Heard of people putting anchor chain in the water, and dissconnecting electrics, but don't know if it makes any difference if you are actually struck... Anyone have experience of preventative measures which reduced damage when struck?

Interesting product. Living on the west coast we get A LOT of rain, and a lot of challenging weather. We have been looking at lightning protection options, reading the varied opinions and are in the process of upgrading our catamaran to better avoid a strike.

I like the early warning and storm distance estimation feature of the Talos. Combined with weather routing, education, and planning it may make a difference. I would be curious to see one in person. Anyone use it already?

Running a Winlink nod and SDR station it would be the perfect tool to know when to disconnect all antennas before the equipment is hit by lightning :-)

This is good timing. We have been in a number of squalls, and while it usually isn’t hard to figure out when you are in a lightning storm, getting advance warning in summer when they are moving in would be good. I was out running in Vinalhaven last week and didn’t get the frantic texts my husband was sending from the dinghy dock. But then i saw the sky and hitched a ride to the dock seeing that I might not make it running back. We barely made it back to the boat to hunker down, the winds topped out at 45 knots and the lightening struck right around us. A few more minutes would have been helpful.

Great to have warning system. I was hydro lineman for over 4 decades and it would have been a handy addition while out working in storms!

The first time I sailed my boat we were just returning to Marmaris when we saw a storm approaching. Lightning hit the water quite close and the instruments all went off. I told my wife to turn the instrument main switch off. Later on the system rebooted, and the instruments survived. Yes I wouild like a lightning detector.

What a great piece of timing! I am planning a long trip beginning with a short cruise through the Gulf of Mexico, a Bahama's crossing, a little Island hopping, then north all the way to New England! This equipment sounds like something that would really be beneficial!

Interesting; assuming the value prop is to give you enough time to secure and protect as much as you can in advance. Here on the west coast of CA, two weeks ago we had over 11,000 strikes as a massive dry storm came ashore (it was responsible for the enormous wildfire outbreak in CA). Looking forward to giving this a trial for sure!

I would love to have this aboard our sailboat, especially with being at anchor recently watching the lightning all around us in the bay area and not having a clue if this was getting closer or further away because it basically cam from the east and west. My family and I were very anxious that day.

Just got a trawler, planning on doing the loop. Picking up boat oct 1. Next few months i will be looking into getting ready for the loop. Safely is the number one thing i will doing first and having this item would be great. Also very cool.

Sailing through the Philippines, lightning is a nightly occurrence. Some of the most amazing light shows and scariest times. We would definitely make for an intense product test. Like the idea of it. Please pick me.
