Yanmar tach settings with Balmar alt.

I have a Balmar XT 170 on a Yanmar 4JH5E. Can anyone tell me what the tach setting should be. Is the only adjustment on the tach control switches ?

Humm. My aftermarket VDO tachometer has a number of switches that allows a wide range of adjustment.

So for ME I got a tachometer app for your phone. Put a white mark on the flywheel then adjust the tachometer to match the engine.

Re: Yanmar tach settings with Balmar alt.

On the back of the tachometer, there is a rotary switch, to match the number of poles, on the alternator rotor.
The alternator Stator Output Wire (WHITE) provides an unrectified source of AC voltage, which is used as a signal, for an electric tachometer.
The 6-Series alternator, for instance, is a 12-pole alternator, meaning that the AC/Stator output will provide 12 pulses per alternator revolution.
