Xantrex inverter problems

I seem to be locked out of options on this Xantrex system--it diverts power from the alternator so the batteries don't charge fully except after hours of running the engine at cruising speed (this is a Bristol 38 sailboat) or shore power. An offshore sailing passage of more than 24 hours using the autopilot drains the batteries even though the alternator is putting out 100 amps. Any ideas? I have heard Xantrex described as "spawn of Satan" and after two years of battling it I'd go with that description. Any suggestions gratefully accepted

what's plugged into it?... an inverter itself is not sucking your 100a alternator. it'll draw 3-5a if left on with nothing plugged in. (so keep it off when not in use)

batteries require 5+ hours of charging to get full. no way to avoid that. even with the biggest chargers.

how many ah is the battery bank and what is your net amps in / out while running the engine?
