What I can't understand is why someone who doesn't know much on the topic would:
A: Post anything on the topic that isn't asking questions and not telling.
B: Not educate themselves first before posting.
C: Search for numerous similar topics before posting.
A. They are repeating what they have read which has given them a starting opinion but realize they may not have whole story. That's the way I read the post.
B. They did educate themselves some before starting the thread but wanted to know more. So they started this thread. Or did you miss all their quoted info from that research elsewhere?
C. This is a discussion forum, not a search function forum.

Newsflash everybody, if you don't know the questions to ask, you can't really research effectively. Discussing what you know is a way to figure out what questions to ask.

Be kind to newbies, if you drive enough people away the forum will die off.

Actually more like 2½

and he's hardly a "newbie". He's been a CF member for 8 years.

Re: The Dangers of Lipo Batteries

Well thankfully we have safe gasoline in our cars, which everyone knows, that can't burst into flames.

Whenever you pack a lot of energy into a small space, especially when it needs to be made available easily and efficiently, there's a risk it gets released "quickly". I do not think the batteries used in electric vehicles are any more dangerous than the gasoline we fill our cars with, nor should it be a reason we turn our backs on progress.

For our boats, most of us do not use gasoline, but diesel, because it's inherently safer. Likewise, we use safer LiFePO4 chemistries for our batteries, rather than the lithium cobalt and related technologies used in most EVs today.

Purely a guess, but I imagine there are 10x more boats safely using gasoline than boats using diesel? Like cars, boats can also be designed to safely use gasoline.

Probably boats, yes. I should have said "cruising sailboats".

So many exceptions to rules.

I’m traveling 1000 miles on gasoline right now.

Already have a couple thousand under the daggerboards too.

2-1/2yr is still long enough to have forgotten what he wrote then and the responses he got.

Yes 8yr a member. But only 34 posts so maybe he lurks a lot or maybe he only checked in once in a great while and really is kind of a newbie.

My be nice comment wasn’t just about the OP of this thread. Newbies coming and asking very basic questions and getting beat up for it is a regular occurrence here.

Probably hard to design a safe inboard gas engine installation on either a monohull or catamaran, but pretty easy to design a safe outboard installation on a catamaran.

Agreed. Safe on a mono? Sure? Useful? Probably not.

Re: The Dangers of Lipo Batteries

Been noticing a fair few people in the last three months in several boating groups I'm a part of, all touting the danger of lithium batteries without discriminating between the different chemistries

Adelie, my personal favorite type of lithium is lithium carbonate.

This medication is used to treat manic-depressive disorder (bipolar disorder).

May Treat: Bipolar disorder in remission · Mania associated with bipolar disorder · Mixed bipolar I disorder

Great for bipolarity - positive and / or negative polarity.

Be sure to keep your boat and home well stocked for your crazy friends and family.

Do you think there is any correlation to the recent spate of new car carrying ships and the EVs inside? Thought not
