Re: Stuck in Mexico: need advice

Unless you learn about a battery monitor though, and how to reset it to keep it accurate, they can do as much harm as not having one, because they drift from accuracy, and need to be reset correctly.
Smart Gauge is the one outlier, however even my Smart Gauge says my bank is fully charge, before it really is, if you use the manufacturer of my batteries definition of fully charged.

Re: Stuck in Mexico: need advice

For SoC nothing is more accurate today than Merlin SmartGauge, supported in the NA market by Balmar.

Also by far the easiest to install configure and use, part of why so accurate. Only works with lead banks.

Out of the plethora of AH counting BMs, needed for LFP, my choice would be Victron 712-BMV.

Many owners install both, but if that seems nuts to you, a decent AH counter - not full BM quality - can be had from well under $100.

Maine Sail uses a Xantrex LinkPRO.

Re: Stuck in Mexico: need advice

I literally sell a Xantrex Link units per WEEK here in La Paz as new cruisers come down and start realizing that just looking at the battery voltage reading on their power panel doesn't give them enough data as to the health of their battery bank.

In some ways which meter isn't as important as having one, anyone, and understanding how to use it along with your ships charging and battery systems.
