Solar Panel & Victron MPPT combination review

My new array includes the following and I would appreciate confirmation or correction regarding my planned panel and controller match.
12 volt system, 700 ah Winston pack with REC-ABMS and Victron Cerbo with Touch 50.

LG370Q1C-V5 (2 panels)
Maximum Power (Pmax) [W] 370
MPP Voltage (Vmpp) [V] 37.0
MPP Current (Impp) [A] 10.01
Open Circuit Voltage (Voc, 5%) [V] 42.8
Short Circuit Current (Isc, 5%) [A] 10.82
Module Efficiency [%] 21.4
Pmax [%/°C] -0.30
Voc [%/°C] -0.24
Isc [%/°C] 0.037
Is the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/30 adequate for each LG panel?

HighTec Solar (2 panels)
250 Watt
Vmp: 21.052V
Voc: 24.335V
Imp: 9.5A
Isc: 9.87A
Temperature Coefficient of Isc: 0.04%/°C
Temperature Coefficient of Voc: -0.32%/°C
Temperature Coefficient of Pmax: -0.41%/°C
Is the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 adequate for each HighTec panel?

I would like to keep all four panels separately connected due to anticipated intermittent shading on the panels.

Thanks.

Re: Solar Panel & Victron MPPT combination review

The amperage rating of the Victron solar controllers is for the charge current of the battery, not the current from the solar panel.

When you get 10A at 37V from the panel, and we assume 100% controller efficiency and a 13V while charging an empty 12V battery, you get just under 30A. So yes, the 30A model is good because we put all the numbers for a theoretical worst case scenario.

This way you can do the math for any panel. If at all fitting your budget, I recommend to get a 100/30 for each panel, instead of mixing with 100/20’s. It’s easier to have all the same plus it allows more options in the future

I would skip the Cerbo and display. Instead, get a BMV712-smart battery monitor. I would also skip the BMS and either keep a multimeter at hand to check balance now and then, while using the BMV712 to check SOC, or... take a much simpler BMS DIY style like I’m developing and document in another thread here in the Lithium forum.

Re: Solar Panel & Victron MPPT combination review

Yup. Thanks. Ran the numbers, but just wanted another set of eyes to confirm.
Four 100/30's would provide additional redundancy, but I built an over/under solar mount with the two 370s fixed in place over the bimini and the two 250s as slide outs from under the 370s. I won't be adding more solar thus the two 100/30s and two 100/20s.
I'll be in North/Central America for a couple years, so I'll have access if/when there's a failure and I need a replacement.

Have had the Winstons and REC up and running for almost 6 months now. Love the system and never going back to LA.
Monitoring with the Simarine Pico.
Advantage of the Cerbo (though could do the same with the other Victron GX products), is I can connect the REC Can to the Cerbo to make the MPPTs slave to the REC. Additionally, I must confess, I like the touch screens and the Touch 50 will fit perfectly in a specific spot.
Thanks again for the second look/confirmation!
