sideways mounted agms dying

is anyone else running sideways mounted agm batteries?

2 L16 batteries mounted on their side. in series in 12v.

just killed the 2nd pair in 12 months. (both lasted about 6 months)

one flips polarity under load so the cell is f*cked internally. same as last time.

first one I took as a unlucky battery defect. but now 2nd set on same boat 6 months later does the same thing.

I'm thinking the agm claim of mounting any way is not true in real life use...

I've installed 50+ of this brand of agm L16s without issues. but this is the only ones on their sides.

We have a G27 Lifeline AGM on about a 60deg angle with no problems.

Re: sidewides mounted agms dying

I have a friend who has had AGMs on their sides for about 5 years. Idon't remember the brand, but they are kind of tall and slim. In any case, I have often seen that AGMs can deliver power from any position, but I've always wondered if the internal parts could handle dynamic forces when mounted in something other than an upright position.
