Re: Shore power inlet fuse/breaker

I wanted to come back and close the loop on this. It happens so very rarely! LOL

My solution may not be 100% ABYC compliant because my parts did not come from Blue Sea. I believe but I'm not certain that the only ELCI in the world comes from Blue Sea. But beyond that, I feel good.

The actual breaker is an RCD, which is mentioned in ABYC and is UL listed. The trip is 32 amps, not 30, but I am comfortable with that (the main breaker in the main panel is 30A). The residual current trip is 30 milliamps which is what is specified by ABYC. I believe the breaker is US manufactured and appears to be a credible brand. The install is about 18 in from my power inlet. The box is a sturdy unit and about a perfect size. I installed it with the breaker sideways because it works well in my installation, but it could also be installed with the breaker facing out.

This is the breaker I used:
ASI NDB1L-32C-32-120V DIN Rail... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NTVB6VY

And this is the box I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077QM9VM9

I also ordered DIN rail, but could not use it in this application. It might have worked if the breaker was facing out.

I am really happy with the solution. And since the box replaced an existing junction box, total labor was less than 2 hours.Click image for larger version

Thats a big IF. Many times, 30 to 50 adapters are used. And, the old 30 A twist lock system is far from robust.

Re: Shore power inlet fuse/breaker

The 10' rule was adopted by the ABYC because of the lack of confidence in the condition of the pedestal circuit breaker. 10' of unprotected wire inside of the boat was thought to be a reasonable compromise.

To further protect this section of wiring that is considered vulnerable, the ABYC also requires supporting this wire run:
Quote:
11.15.4.1.9.2 by means of metal straps or clamps with smooth, rounded edges to hold the conductors firmly in place without damage to the conductors or insulation. That section of the conductor or cable directly under the strap or clamp shall be protected by means of a loom, tape, or another suitable wrapping to prevent injury to the conductor; or

11.15.4.1.9.3 by means of metal clamps lined with an insulating material resistant to the effects of oil, gasoline(petrol), and water

@sailingharry came up with an inexpensive and compliant solution. Congratulations!
