I posed it as a question, but I'm 100% sure that you cannot take the power to energize the coil from the big cable that runs the windlass.
The power to activate the solenoid must come from a separate curcuit.

As long as a solenoid is physically intact it will probably work okay. It’s just a spring, a couple contacts, and an electromagnet. However, the amount of rust seems to indicate that moisture is accumulating- deck seepage? That amount of moisture could eventually compromise the cable and wire fittings and connections. Looks like you may have a couple things going on there.

My elec winch located at the base of my main mast recently went south I’m in Mexico, so I went to the local Auto Zone and got a $12.00 solenoid for a 1975 F150 Ford with a 390 CU engine. Works fabulously.
