I would have thought using 2x 30 pound magnets. How do you store them?

Very carefully They come in a box with a styrofoam insulator and plastic rings that hold the magnets apart. They are fiercely strong - you have to be careful not to let them jump together as they can shatter.

I didn't notice the difference in pull rating between the two types I bought until you pointed it out.

Yes on the shattering. Wear safety glasses please. The debris is sharp.

Re: Flexible Solar Panel Magnets

My Bimini manufacturer advised to just use a small awl and push a small hole between the threads. Then insert a small barrel nut through the fabric and solar panel grommet. Use large nylon fender style washers on each side of fabric to distribute the load. I’d attach pictures, but it’s a PITA!

Flexible solar panels continue to improve - both in durability and output. I would only go to the expense of an arch and rigid panels if I were full time cruising. For occasional weekends or weeks in the summer, I’d rather install my flexible on my Bimini, and then store them safely away the rest of the time when they are unused.

Re: Flexible Solar Panel Magnets

Quick update: Went to check on my boat today and several of the magnets are now showing signs of corrosion after 18 months.

I have a bunch of spares, so I'll probably replace them for now, and pop in some grommets next time I take the bimini down for a clean.
