Backstay vs Solar Panels

I'm working on mounting my solar panels. The backstay will have to go between the panels and I wonder how much potential lateral movement there can be in the backstay.
I see lots of biminis with the backstay through an opening so can anyone with this type tell me how much the backstay moves laterally on a change of tack?

Re: Backstay vs Solar Panels

should be minimal unless your rigging is unacceptably slack.

Re: Backstay vs Solar Panels

Not much, but leave it so the panels can flex, meaning the mounting of course. The most movement I have ever seen was in very high winds and they started shaking, about an inch I think, but it was very high winds.
I have split backstays, and mine don’t move at all on a change of tack.
