Re: (4) 30amp pedestal to 50amp?

Our marina does all the work on their equipment. When I needed a second 30A outlet on our pedestal, they installed it (for free). Verify with your marina if they will do the install.

Do you know if the inlets are 120v or 240v? If they are 120v, are they combined to make 240v internal to the boat? If so, you will have to verify that the pedestal outlets are opposite phase. (I.E. how is it wired for 240 & 110?)

(Residential AC is a sine wave with a total potential of 240v. 120v is taken by having a neutral wire tap at the mid point of the wave where potential is zero.)

Just tell the marina what you need while you are handing them the rent check, if they don't volunteer to do it for you, look for another marina.

Re: (4) 30amp pedestal to 50amp?

When we moved to our current home slip, the pedestal was wired for twin 30s. The marina (their electrician) converted it to a single 50, no cost, easy solution.

I can use a voltmeter, but am limited to 12v and 110V; don't want to venture past my knowledge base.

Well, it's become a moot point for me; the marina manager just emailed to tell me their electrician is coming out for other wiring work with septic pumps, and is rewiring our pedestal to 50amp. It will make it easier for us as we'll be there at least for the next 3 years, and since lots of cats can use the 50amp outlets it's not a waste for them.

Thanks for all the advice and info!

much better to have them do it anyway.. didnt you say you had two cords for that boat?? you just need a splitter now.... also you better check with the PO if its a 50 amp 125v or 50 A 125/250...... the plug is different ,,,,,
