Lagoon 440

Hello,

I am new to this site and just looking for some help on a boat purchase.

I went on a pre inspection or my inspection before survey and found some issues on the forward bulkheads port and starboard.

I have read just about everything on the 450 bulkhead issue but thought the 440 was immune to this issue.

I am going to post a few pics and look forward to your opinions.

The pics are of port and starboard front bulkhead areas.

Thanks

Re: Lagoon 440

You need to see the bulkhead proper. Cracks in screwed and/or glued timber paneling and furniture happen in most volume production cats, and this one is at least 12 years old. A competent multi-hull surveyor should identify if there is a serious and expensive problem.

Tin Tin,

Thank You for the reply and advice it is well valued.

You are the first response I have got and I have already passed on the 440.

There were other areas that were also cracking or splitting that I did not get to post a picture of. The owners head shower wall was also splitting from top down and in several other areas. and just a few other things like owner could not tell me what the engine hours were because both engine hour meters were broken.

All of the exterior seating cushions were missing, they said they through them away. other things were also in very poor condition and they were asking top dollar for the boat. The broker did not report any issues and said the boat was in top condition before we went to look at it.

Thank You for the response

Next time before you travel I suggest to ask for a walkthrough via whatsup video call (or airtime or alike) to see if condition is like stated and just a first overall impression. Saves you a lot of time and costs. If not possible walk away, there is always a way even if the broker or owner is not at the location.
I saved a lot of money and time doing that looking for my cat and actually bought mine prior to survey based on the Video walkthrough because the broker went 30min after I requested before he went home right to the cat, everything was even better then described and he clearly showed me what was broken without me even asking. Plus price was slightly below average market price (with normally old engines around 2000-5000h) but with 2 new engines+saildrives.
I then flew to the cat a week later and was allowed to stay 2 nights at the cat and checking it myself during that time, owner even wanted that. Only then I had survey done.

Re: Lagoon 440

Captain rivet,

Thankyou for the reply. I had asked the broker for updated pictures a video but he kept saying his phone was having trouble send them to me. The boat was in key west and had to fly in to ft Lauderdale and drive down. That in its self was not fun. So I passed on the boat it showed poor had the bulkhead issues, all exterior seating I mean all was missing or thrown away. The cocktail pit sink was cracked and pretty much destroyed would have to be replaced, no engine hours all faucets were corroded and needed replaced. Door for cabins sticking not closing or hard to close. Chips and cracks in flooring, Just needed a lot of bright work. All that and more so it just was not a 300k dollar boat. I just wish the broker would have been a bit more honest about what he was actually selling me.

Re: Lagoon 440

Time I don't think any Lagoons are immune from the bulkhead issue. I surveyed a Lagoon 380 that had some cracked bulkheads. The bulkheads were not cracked but the green filler/glue holding them against the hull had cracked. What surprised me was the interior hull resin was really shiny right up to the green goo. I would have thought that the builders would have ground that section of hull before gooping a bulkhead in place.

Cheers

Re: Lagoon 440

I think you are right I believe it is affecting all of the lagoon models. Its just now getting out because the L450 owners are having issues on almost new boats. they didn't just start building them that way, I think the bad bulkhead design is in all duplicated in all of the models.

Thanks
