I am very interested. I live in Newport and have sailed my whole life, and am free to leave as of today!

Most of the marinas in FL, that I know of, require a person to be on their haul list or haul waiting list (& prepaid for the season) in order to get hauled out when a hurricane is on the way in. There is usually a pecking order in which the boats get pulled & the long standing prepaid locals usually get yanked first. Often, not all the boats on the waiting list will get yanked before the storm hits. Also, the mangroves & other hurricane holes usually start to fill up about 2 days before the storm gets there.

Do you have your haul out ports & hurricane holes planned in advance?

Sounds awesome. I am a 19yr old with a basic Bareboat Cruising license. Looking to help aboard a sailboat for a few months.
Let me know if you need a skipper!

Not knocking you here, but I'm not sure what license you are talking about either. Can you please post a link to a web page that describes the document that you are referring to?

I'm just asking out of curiosity. Sorry if I am being a bother.

Thanks,
Jim

Not to disappoint but I don't think there is such a thing.

There are a lot of sailing schools giving certificates (maybe called other things) but a licence as I understand it is given only by a govt. agency. There are no govt issued sailing licences I have heard of. But I have not heard everything there is to hear. Maybe DOJ knows?

Re: Leisurely sail down the east coast from Newport, RI to Florida, August 2013

I initially looked at this thread as a means to possibly find a "buddy boat" however I will not be leaving the bay before Oct 15'th 2013. ... I am doing the trip from Hampton, VA to Ft. Lauderdale in 3 or 4 coastal hops.

I have a few people interested at this point, however I'd really like to ensure everyone is on the same page with respect to the trip and the boat. So, if it is at all possible I'd like for you to come down and see the boat for yourself, and at the same time give us an opportunity to meet you beforehand. As of today and for the next month or so, I'll be on the Potomac River.

If this is not practical for you, please message me privately with more details about yourself and what you'd like to do. For example this is a three or four leg trip starting in Hampton, VA. All legs will be coastal weather permitting. The boat is also a relatively light weight Racer/Cruiser which is tiller steered. We do have quality equipment aboard, and we are space limited.

Let me know your thoughts,

Ralph G

Hi Keddy!

I am an avid racer with some cruising experience and would love to lend a hand on your trip! I have VHF/Boater's licence and coastal nav with experience cruising BVI, North Channel and Bahamas. I used to coach a race team out of Hamilton.

More than happy to pitch $ for food and my personal expenses of course.

Please give me a call 289-442-0365 or email mostapiak@gmail.com

Re: Leisurely sail down the east coast from Newport, RI to Florida, August 2013

Hi!

I'm in South Carolina near Charleston. Myself and a friend are looking to get some experience before we head out later this year. If you had room, we would love to crew for you maybe from SC down to FL?

I've been sailing my whole life and currently own and live on a Bayfield 25 but I have very little offshore experience. My friend has only sailed with me, but is an excellent cook!
