Van de Stadt Steel Cutter

LOWERING PRICE

Re-listing Ahanan now at $60,000.

We think this is a lot of bluewater boat for the money, and doubtless one of the strongest in her class at any price. She's in very good condition, and well loved. Her bilges, through-hulls, inside plates, welds and stringers are well coated and clean of corrosion (subject to your surveyor’s confirmation, please). Deck, topsides and below waterline plates are all well primed, coated, clean and with new zincs. She’s tight, bright, solid and dry.

There is quite a bit of live-aboard and weather-oriented custom canvas which is included from the original owners, though we have never made much use of it due to how we used (or didn’t use) the boat. For instance, there are wonderful fore and aft custom awnings which are rigged from halyards and poles above the decks, perfect for longer periods at anchor or dockside in sunny hot weather. There is also a smaller, yet relatively large cockpit canopy which is great for sleeping under in the cockpit at anchor in wet weather or motoring on long windless hot passages (we did use this a lot). The boat has a wonderful teak boom gallows. And there is a top shorter rear extension canopy running aft from the dodger to the gallows, with zipped side panels for bad weather enclosure while under way (nice feature, too, in cold weather).

There are a few repair and maintenance items justifying our decision to lower her price. E.g., she will soon need a relining for the dodger; the regulator for the Reflek oil stove needs service or replacement; some of the deck teak will need attention; some stitching and new Velcro needed on the mainsail cover.

Here's some of the broker ad language, and some attached pictures (the two in the water are from 2006) --

This beautiful solid centercockpit cutter was constructed by Morvoran Seacraft in England under Van de Stadt license and design, and custom fitted to her original owners’ specifications. The vessel was completed and launched in 1992 and sailed across. Built and spec’ed for world cruising, she has a sturdy, functionally elegant and purposeful appearance, with well considered live-aboard layout. Her rig is very strong, and she was built with full steel liferails, flush decks fore and aft, a well protected cockpit with hard dodger and a 61hp Lehman diesel with ample power for extended motoring. Her sensible cutter rig and large deck area make for effective and safe handling in a seaway. A roomy and private layout below is comfortable and practical for passagemaking and a joy to live aboard while at anchor.

Accommodations
The interior of this boat is much larger than it appears from the outside. Stepping aboard her is like stepping aboard a 40 footer.
From the center cockpit one goes below and finds at the base of the companionway the galley to port and the head compartment to starboard. Forward, one finds port and starboard settee/berths, with a dropleaf table mounted on the centerline. A V berth is further forward. Aft, a passageway through the galley leads to the spacious master stateroom. This stateroom features a large double berth, dressing seat and lots of storage.
The entire interior is neat and tidy and well made, with lots of beautiful brightwork, including nav table, bulkheads, parquet sole, and with accents of painted tiles.

Purposeful looking boat .

You probably want to add boat location and clarify currency (I am guessing somewhere in USA and USD).

I'll give ya $5000 cash
Its a buyers market...

I'm kidding of course (unless you'd consider it! LOL!)

Beautiful boat by the way I likely couldn't even afford the insurance...

Re: Van de Stadt steel cutter

She was indeed there, for quite some time I understand, before heading up the coast and eventually to Annapolis. Originally, they had brought her across to Barbados, I believe, beginning their passage from the Canaries. They moved ashore and were headed to Maine. We've kept her mostly in Annapolis on the Chesapeake, but had her in Rockland for a year. Thought about taking her back south, but life got in the way.

Its good that you said it was "dealer ad language" because when I see "language like " "stepping aboard her is like stepping aboard a forty footer" I start thinking If someone wanted a "forty footer" why buy one that "feels " like "forty"..Its like some of the certain "ethnic" pricing one sees, such as forty nine ninty nine!! You mean "fifty dollars"? Why the hell didnt you just say fifty dollars? Human pursausive tactics used by sales people burn me up!Thanks for stating the salesmans language and for advertising the price as $60,000 and not $59,950.00 or $59,999.00..I look at people with a jundiced eye when I here such trash and find it hard to trust them, just like when someone says "to be honest"! What are you saying ,Your not always honest? Or to tell you the truth!! hell you dont always tell the truth?.......Nice boat you have there! good luck on the sale,it should be easy...
