It never hurts to ask..
It never hurts to put it out to the universe and ask, so here goes... I am a single mom with limited funds who splits custody with the kids dad and so one week I'm kid free 4 days a week, the following week I'm kid free 3 days a week. I am stuck in god awful Sacramento area and I'm from the bay area and miss it badly. Recently I found a wonderful community with houseboat living in the North Bay. Without trying to give up custody of my kids, but needing more out of life, I would love to find a free to very cheap live-able houseboat of some sort that I can have my double life and truly live a life that feeds my soul. I'd love to be able to bring my kids to the houseboat one or two weekends a month, while maintaining a small home in the area where we live now. If you have an extra boat laying around taking up space and you want to find her a new owner, here I am! I am open to any condition, but I'm not much of a handyman. I will not respond to freaky sexual offers or if I feel like you're some sort of creeper, I will report you immediately. I am sincere in my intentions (living part-time on a houseboat) and appreciate your time reading this. Namaste'

Re: It never hurts to ask..
I don't know about houseboats, but if you search for "cabin cruiser" you tend to find older motor vessels that are plenty large for liveaboard purposes.
Remains to be seen just how much work is required to fix this one up . . . but you could always plunk it on a mooring or in a slip and at least have a getaway place.

Good luck!

Re: It never hurts to ask..
are you willing to pay the slip fees and electric fees, basically the regular maintainance? What amount are you willing to pay per month?
This information would greatly help the person with the unused boat to decide on letting you stay there without buying the boat from them.

Re: It never hurts to ask..
By the way, if you haven't read it yet, get a copy of "The Curve of Time" by M. Wylie Blanchet, about a single mom taking her kids cruising in the Pacific Northwest back in the 1930s. A beautiful book, and it'll be great inspiration.

Re: It never hurts to ask..
What's wrong with being a "Freaky Sexual" .
At the risk of entering "creeper people" territory........I think OP would be best off walking the docks ........to find something already in situ and that someone is looking to walk (run?!) away from, as likely that "free" will be a close relation of "too fooked to move more than 5 yards".....in any event the idea of going for an old Cabin Cruiser / Motorboat with fooked engines (those being 99% of the value) at the price of a tad less accomadation than a houseboat might be the more likely option to acheive "free", given that use won't be 24/7 and more likely that someone else would value anywhere they could use for 24/7 living higher than OP, no matter how fooked it is.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing how this thread develops........

Re: It never hurts to ask..
beautifully wicked huh? is that like boston talk for hella cool? i think by the end of summer, i may be able to actually afford to put a little money into buying a boat outright, things right now are kinda tight with a recycling business that's only been open 6 months. we shall see what my future holds. i am currently obsessed with the idea of a home away from home in my home area.
