Re: Hookah Diving Rig

You want Hansen brand quick disconnects. These are top of the line brass fittings and are found on the best commercially available hookahs. They are the only QDs that I have found to be worth a damn in a saltwater environment. Brownie's fittings are all plastic, so while they will not corrode, they will break. Not robust enough for my needs.

Re: Hookah Diving Rig

My friends clean their bottom with a hooka rig. It is gas powered and the most convient place to put the compressor is on the aft deck. One must be very careful of "station wagon effect" as the breeze likes to curl around the back of the boat. Sometimes just moving the unit three feet one way or the other will fix the issue.

A friend and I removed and replaced the props on my boat once. He was in better condition than me but even he needed a couple of breathers. Big thing is to use lines and have the right tools. Like the old Sarge said, "If you're going to be dumb you better be tough."

Thanks for the lead on that. Our Brownie has the plastic QDs. I was not too thrilled when I saw them. I will put some Hansens in the spares inventory.

For those who have not found these guys, They have specials & clearances all the time. Nov & Dec they drove me nuts with good deals we needed to have.

Re: Hookah Diving Rig

Here's my current setup, if anybody's interested:

Thomas 1207 compressor.

Hose assembly. The red hose is 10' of heat dissipation hose, the black hose is 50' of high-quality breathing hose and the yellow is the 30" whip that attaches my 2nd stage reg to the air hose. Note the inline filter housing between the heat hose and the breathing hose.

The whole shebang.
