TRUE heading shows 372 degrees when MAG Heading is 359...?

I get NMEA0183 @ 4800 heading output from a MARETRON SSC-200. Works fine on my device displays. When OPENCPN 4.8.8 shows heading, MAG is correct on all displays. However, TRUE HEADING (when mag.heading is 359) will show 372 degrees....HUH?
When I goto `0 degree', TRUE heading flips to 12. Mag.Variation is my area is 11.7, so this is numerically correct but something is wrong in process loop.
If I rotate back to 359 degrees MAGNETIC, it will again show 372 and decrement backwards as I decrease MAG heading. It stays lockstep with the magnetic variation being to gap between.
It is when it gets to magnetic NORTH that error occurs.
USED DASHBOARD MAG & TRUE plus the text display icons to show my NMEA/TCP-fed data inputs. NMEA monitor window also allowed comparison.
Data is proper as input and displays elsewhere on my systems properly.

It is trivial calculation error - as we know north is both 360 and 0 degrees and if the result is >360, 360 must simply be subtracted from it (Which I until now was convinced OpenCPN does correctly in all code paths).

Would you mind recording a short capture of your actual data stream using the VDR plugin? I would like to make sure whether you are using the deprecated HDM sentence (Which is normally disabled on the SSC-200).

Sorry for long post...


I spun it through 0 to show range of offset.


I tried with and without incoming filter excuding everything EXCEPT $HDHDG.


Same always no matter if filtered or not. Same error.

Now I've played you NMEA sequence in O Beta V5 when the boat was on place where the variation is around 12° as of your example. I've seen no HDT more 360°. It shift nicely to 0 and more when passing 360°

What's you OpenCPN version?

This is fixed since https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/c...e3a074c71ebb9a as far as I can say, so the current O5 beta should work just fine for you.

As I'm on 4.8.8 now, I'll download the BETA and test on my end.
