Thanks for your reply !
I did install photolayer through plugin manager. What you say already happened to me, I could resolve it the way you say (same discussion#39)
This time, I have no uninstaller because of having done installation through plugin manager, I suppose ... Though, I can't.

Let me know what to do ...

I have seen problems with the uninstaller for managed plugins. Try and uninstall with the manager.

Then go to "C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins" or similar!

Manually delete photolayer_pi.dll. The data folder "C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\opencpn\plugins\photo layer_pi\data" should already have been removed by the uninstaller.

Then try and install again.

You may need to use "reinstall" and close/open OpenCPN to get it working.

I cannot run photolayer plugin on linux mint 20.1. It does install, but it does not show up in the menu bar, and gets 'forgotten' when I close opencpn (i.e. I have to reinstall it reopening opencpn).



opencpn log file shows:

I have libgeotiff5 and libgeotiff-dev installed.


What can I do about this ?

Try installing libproj. This is the source of the projection types and may be the reason for the error message 'undefined symbol: proj_get_type'.

But I have libproj15 and libproj-dev installed as well.


I did install opencpn thru synaptic, would installing it thru flatpak make a difference ?

investigating a little further. This Proj project is new to me ;-)


I see that proj-bin itself is also installed (version 6.3.1-1)
libproj15 and libproj-dev are also versions 6.3.1-1
system variables $PROJ_LIB and $PROJ_DEBUG are not set


the proj website apparently advises to install proj from source. Should I try this ? And if so, what version ? I see they are at 6.3.2, but there's also versions 7.x.x and even 8.x.x ...

I found this page : https://githubmemory.com/repo/Rasbat...sues/34?page=1 where you recommended downloading and installing version 3.3.1 of photolayer. I've downloaded it and manually installed it (copying the files in ~/.local/lib/opencpn/libphotolayer_pi.so and ~/.local/share/opencpn/plugins ...) , but this does not work either. I'm not sure if this was the right procedure of installing that package tough.

Thanks for the reminder. An old problem that has not been solved.

Not knowing your version of Mint but ...

Download the v3.3.1 tarball from this page:

Using plugin manager use the 'Import Plugin' button and select the appropriate 3.3.1 tarball. Open ... and it will add an entry to the list of plugins available (I hope). Select the item and 'Install'. Enable, and it should work ok.

On Ubuntu 20.0.4 (GTK3) I used the 3.3.1+3103.v3.3.1 package.

I've tried to import plugin :
photolayer-3.3.1+3105.v3.3.1_ubuntu-18.04-x86_64.tar.gz
photolayer-3.3.1+3107.v3.3.1_ubuntu-16.04-x86_64.tar.gz


but when importing I get the message :
"incompatible import plugin detected"
So I do not get to see it in the list of installable plugins.

photolayer-3.3.1+3103.v3.3.1_ubuntu-gtk3-20.04-x86_64.tar.gz is being imported, I can then enable it in plugin manager (it displays as version 0.0.0), but still no button appears in menu bar.

looking into what I've got installed with names as libwx or gtk2u I find:
installed:

not installed: libwxsqlite3-3.0-0

Using OpenCPN from flatpak, the 3.3.1 flatpak plugin may be worth a try.
