Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

Awesome, thank you Patrick.

Am I correct, that Polauto will now read a data file directly?
I just remembered this improvement and think it would be a good direct way to turn Nmea data files into polars, or to learn more about your great Windows program.

Thanks again.

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

Dear Rick,
Yes now you can read a NMEA file with Polauto.
You go in "Conf" and click on "read" and then if you want to stop reading, you go in "Conf" and you click on "Stop".

I am trying to make possible to import a .xml polar file in Polauto, and so then it will be possible to change this file in différents formats.

Best regards,
Patrick.

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

Patrick,

Thanks very much for implementing the conversion to .xml I am trying to test Polauto using only the NMEA file of Harmut (tried to attach it but Forum won't upload it, even with accepted extension, but Rick knows the file, AIS-Wind from about a year ago)). When I unzip it, it produces a file with the extension .nmea

Since Polauto only references files .txt, I changed the .nmea extension to .txt and I could see the data streaming at the upper right. But although the wind appeared to be fine, the boat speed is always shown as less than 1, so there is no polar created.

I am attaching a screenshot of the data showing the very slow boat speed.
I'm sure I am doing something wrong...but what?

Find Hartmut's nmea and other test nmea files (AIS, etc) here:
OpenCPN Beta File Thingie User: rguser, rgpass under Nmea directory.

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

That is the file I had downloaded. It unzips with an extension of .nmea

Was it correct to change the extension to .txt? That is the only extension that Polauto gives as a file type to read.

So why were all of the speed values less than 1?

I think I remember someone saying they had sent Rick some better data for producing polars, but I never saw the files themselves.

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

It is a text file (not binary executible) and can easily be renamed. I do not believe that file has speeds lest than one. I have used it often to test Polauto. ...something has changed... perhaps units?

Try some of the other files maybe.

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

I downloaded the Portsmouth nmea file, and it produced the same results...alll speeds less than 1.

I don't see any option to set units...

Could something have been changed when Patrick added the .xml conversion?

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

Hello IndigoJon,
i find a bug in the new version 5.12
It's impossible to change the coefficient for the speedo and purhaps it's under 1 for you. (look at the picture join )
I 'll post a new file of Polauto with the correction this day.
I hope i should have finish also the possibility of import .xml file in Polauto.
Bests Regards
Patrick

IndigoJon,

open the file "confcoefspeedo" with the blocnote and put 1 and save.
This file is in C:\programmes\polauto\config

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

Thanks very much, Patrick, I will load that and begin a test.

It also appears that because of the size of the main window and the config window, several of the data boxes and fields are too narrow to display all of the characters, and some of the boxes and fields overlap and block out some letters of text. If the main window and the config window were each a bit wider, those boxes could be re-sized so the data would fit better. When I test, I'll take a screenshot and see if I can mention what is being blocked.

Also, would there be the possibility to show "Kn" (Knots) for wind speed and boat speed in the English version? What exactly does "Nds" stand for?

Thanks for making those changes so quickly.

Re: PCSail - Excel sheet to make VPP for Sailing yachts

I am still trying to get a speed more than "1". I have to use the "GPS" for speed because Harmut's file has VHW = 0.00 for speed; I will attach a screenshot of the settings I have with the latest Polauto version.

Does someone have other NMEA data to use for testing?

Attached is a screenshot and I have put circles at the places where the fields or data boxes seem to be just a little too small. Please be assured that I don't mean any criticism...you have done a wonderful job with producing this program and I mean only to try to help make it even better for all of our users, so please I hope you will take my comments constructively.
