Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

So, if we can spoof ver. 3.0.2 to see it as SP3 then why do we bother with it.
I am more concerned with vector charts being shown only up to 70 deg. North instead usual 80 deg. May have to stay with ver. 2.5. There is still a good bunch of Northerners need.
Cheers,

This problem has already been addressed for the next beta. You are very welcome to test it when it comes out. Still a few weeks from now I think.

FWIW I am running XPSP3 and 3.0.2 shows cm93 vector charts from 80N to 80S.

Running W7, CM93 2011 are fine with 3.0.2 up to 80° (see pic), but NOT with 3.1.919, where one is limited to 70° (OpenGL irrelevant)

ADDED: quilting and gshhs irrelevant

Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

3.0.2 does shows from 80N to 80S while latest version 3.1.814 shows only 70 deg. for S57 and cm93.

Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

A lot confusion about SP3. Winver for sure will display what you have and doesn't guarantee successful installation. On one of my machines I had SP3 except Add/Remove program was not showing it. Spent two days nosing around how to fix it and removing SP3 to re-install. Eventually succeeded and eventually 3.0.2 or 3.1.814 refused to install any way.
Do we really have to face this type of problems. If on some machines you can spoof it then after all requirement for SP3 is not needed. What would you say.
Cheers,

Patch proposal for device selection.

I posted on Index of /download/OpenCPN a patch proposal for "chart1.cpp". It is a very minimal patch, but it would improve non expert user live during initial configuration of OpenCPN.

I built it on Ubuntu-12.04 but should run quite straight forward on other platform. Nevertheless I'm not an expert in WXwidget and my few call using wxstring might not be optimal.

Patch goal is to improve researched devices in /dev directory.
  • It makes easier to add new pattern and allows external plugins to add their own research devices in selectable list (ex: /dev/*ait2000*)
  • It scans only existing devices and does limit the search to very basic pattern like today with /dev/ttyUSB[0-9]
  • It generates error message, when a device exist but fail to be open (usually because user is not part of dialout group).
Note: I added in default research pattern /dev/ttyACM which is how the AIT2000 and other devices appear. I also added a generic /dev/ttyGPS pattern for fixed devices names generated from udev rules (see udev sample in directory).

Please create a task for this against the 3.1 Beta project in Flyspray.
This is the best and supported way to ensure your patch gets looked at before next beta.

Enclose your patch to the task.

Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

I'm a new user, abd like what i see. used to use Seaclear. I've downloaded the latest version DEC 31, 2012 (3.0.2) and I like the look of the OpenCPN format.

I also downloaded the latest BSBV4 plugin successfully, and saved it in the program's "plugin" folder where the other plugins are, but this plugin does not show in the plugin tab list of "tools", so i can not enable it. My other plugins work fine, so i think i have the process right.

I need this plugin to view the Canadian raster charts (2012), which are properly registered. I have the encryption key, but it installed in the same directory, but its own folder. Does that make a difference? I've pointed to the correct folder in the program's "charts" tab, and run the rebuild. Still can't see the charts.

Is there a problem with the plugin for release 3.0.2? Any help would be appreciated.

Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

For whatever it is worth I have run 3.02 with the BSB plugin and CHS charts so I can promise you that it works. Do you possibly have 2 instances of OpenCPN installed? The installer will create a 2nd directory if you select Parallel rather than Upgrade during the installation process. In that case you will end up with 2 directories for OpenCPN and you will need to ensure that you place the BSB plugin in the correct directory. You definitely need to see the plugin on the tab listing in the Tools menu.

Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

thanks much for the reply. while i only had one version of Open CPN installed you got me thinking. i had too many versions of the plug-in downloaded. i cleaned all out and re-downloaded a new plug-in. worked first time and activated.

i also copied the CHS BSB v4 encryption files into the same folder as the BSB files (it was auto installed to a separate folder), then did a rebuild. success!!! worked like a charm, and now i can view the Canadian charts.

thanks again. another satisfied user of the forum.

Re: OpenCPN Version 3.0.2 Release

You didn't have to copy encryption files to BSB directory. It can sit on different drive and partition. When updating all BSB & KAP files will go to your BSB directory, CHS allows a year for updates while as in my case two years later is still possible. Enjoy.
