Several users have added to an RPI3 a $9 Optimus inertial sensor -
Optimus Electric
10DOF Module Gyroscope, Accelerometer, Pressure Sensor and Compass Functions MPU6050 HMC5883L BMP180 from Optimus Electric

I don't if there is programming readily avalable to use these sensors.
