Open CPN and Google Earth

I recently downloaded and installed the Google Earth add on to CPN but for some reason it appears not to work.
When I click on the GE icon in cpn the GE viewer opens on the chart and nothing further occurs.I am using cpn 2.5.0 and GE 6.1.0.5001.
Could someone give me some advice on this?

It rather depends on what you want it to do. In the preferences I select "follow chart viewport" which means that when you move the chart the GE views follows the move.

Sometimes the GE window comes up without the "follow" checkbox (on the lower left of the GE screen) checked. In this case check it and move the Ocpn screen slightly. This will cause GE to jump to the Ocpn location.

If the "follow" box is checked, move the Ocpn screen slightly and GE should jump to the Ocpn location.

The box in the bottom left hand corner is ticked.
When i start Ocpn and click the GE icon the window in OCPN opens, GE starts and shows its opening title,and then its tips box but does not open fully in a window behind opcn - is this correct?
To me it seems that GE may crash on opening but I am not sure if this is my imagination or not - never having seen the interface between the two programs running!

The ge window is open if you're seeeing the checkbox and presumably you see the earth from 6000mi. Nothing will happen until you move the Ocpn chart a little by leftclicking(and hold it down) and moving the mouse a half inch or so. Then the GE window should show the same area shown by the chart.

I usually expand the GE window to half the screen. If this works for you I'm guessing that GE is still alive. If you click on the GEplugin icon and the ge window goes away Ocpn is still alive.

Therein lies the problem. The GE window opens the box is ticked but no GE aerial photo is shown ever- it remains a white box!

try to start GE normally and disable the tips at startup permanently. Also if your screen resolution is less than 1024x768 and you get that warning at GE startup, you have to disable it permanently. Then try the plugin again.
If still no go, I will need the end of your logfile.

This is the log file for the last try. I cannot see much reference to the GE interface except it was loaded- it does not indicate when the GE icon was pressed etc.

Brian,
Maybe you need to exit the GE plugin (if possible) and exit Ocpn to make sure that the logfile is written. It may be buffered. However, I looked at my logfile, after loading and exiting GE and Ocpn. I didn't see any references to the GE plugin either. Maybe there's a verbose mode somewhere that we don't know about.

Hopefully someone else will help.

I had this problem because the GE process was still running in the background when starting opencpn and GE plugin In XP cntrl alt del and then open processes to see if the GE process is still running. if it is close the process restart OpenCpn and restart the GE plugin.

David i rebooted and started clean booting OCPN first -no change to the file info so it must be unlogged or hidden
Richard with a clean boot it should also work as you suggested but no luck
seems a complete mystery to me as it is a reasonably simple process

I had the same problem, GE starts but not in the white box, it also says it can't find a file.

When I tried it with User Account Control turned off however it works fine. I have no idea why as I'm no IT geek but I just run it with UAC off!

I also have the Dashboard, Grib and both Logbooks (original and Konni's) as plug-ins and they all work with UAC turned on.
