oeSENC charts no long showing on Android

I'm not very experienced with OpenCPN, but use it for some planning on Linux at home and installed the Android app last year. Last summer, I had my UK oeSENC charts on both Linux and Android, and both worked very well. The Android app was very useful going into Aberystwyth when the boat's nav computer chose its moment to keel over.


After a few months of non-usage during which the charts had reached their expiry date and the Android app (Dave Register version) had been updated, I opened up OpenCPN on my phone again to find no charts showing. I've subsequently been through many attempts to reload them, and tried reinstalling the app, but all to no avail. The app seems to scan the charts fine and then lists quite a lot of stuff under Chart Groups -> All Available Charts, but nothing shows up on the map. No outlines (despite being switched on), no chart detail, nothing.


I've made no changes to the storage of the charts on my phone since it was working, and I'm on Android 9, so it's not to do with the permissions changes in 11.


Any ideas what might be up? Is this expected behaviour, e.g. does the Android version refuse to show out of date charts? They're still displaying fine in OpenCPN on my computer.

The ocharts you paid for remain useable on the same system/device even after subscription expires. Also on Android.

Someone (such as Dave or Hubert) can answer better, but:
I think if you updated your Android OpenCPN, the change of chart directories applies even if you use Android <11 (this is the case on my phone running Android 9).

first question: what does the log fie say? You access it's content from Options|About (the "?).

I cleared the log, then ticked the scan and force update boxes and hit OK. This is what resulted.

Is the o-charts plug-in installed and enabled? An o-charts tab at Options|Charts?

Bingo! No it wasn't, and hadn't been before I reinstalled the app either. I suppose it must have gone astray during a background app update and I'd forgotten all about the need for it.


I have charts again, life is good!
